I am in the closed beta. Which wasn't hard to get into.
The game is based on WWII tanks. Now don't get your hopes up if you're a military buff and want to reenact Stalingrad. Because this game is more like Counter Strike. Each match starts with about 15 people on each side. And the object is to either capture the enemy's base by standing in the circle around the flag for a given amount of time or kill all of the opposing tanks. Also, there several maps, but no other game modes.
When you start, you have two tanks, you can use the Russian MS-1 or the German Liechttraktor. They plan to introduce tanks from other countries. Some are even on their as gold only buys.
Depending on your mindset. You'll either say. "This game is fucking stupid!" or you'll just try again. Because you will die really fast. The tanks are very slow and aren't as accurate as you would hope. Especially on the move.
So those of you who have no patience. Don't bother trying it out. You will probably rage quit from SPGs dominating the early game.
In the game there are different currencies. Credits that you get from games. And experience, that you also get from games, that you use for research to unlock upgrades and other tanks. And gold, which is going to be something you buy with real money when the game launches, keep in mind this will be a free to play title. An added note, you can trade gold for credits.
This leads me to my next point about the game. Things start off nice an innocent. First tier of tanks is only 12,000ish credits. And the research doesn't cost a lot of experience. From the starting tanks you can branch off into the SPG tree, the Light tree that often branches into either medium or heavy tanks, and the tank killers.
Once you get passed the first pick of these. It gets very costly. From around 70k to 90k depending on what you're going down. And then jumps right into 180k range. And so on and so forth.
In the game I've earned as much as 7k credits for things like detecting enemy units, damaging, and destroying tanks. But most of the time it's around 3.5k. And you have repair costs for all tanks past the starters. The starters repair for free.
Another thing to consider is that all tanks have crew. The starters have 2 guys. Most have 4. And each crew has their own skill level, measured in percentage. Each one has their own task of course. Driver, gunner, reloader, radioman, and spotter. Sometimes one crew member shares multiple rolls. They gain experience as your tank does. Very slowly, but if you research everything in the tech tree for that particular tank, you scan switch on Speed up crew training, the tank stops gaining experience if you turn it on. They have "Free experience" that you can apply to any tank. But it gains very slowly. You can use gold to transfer regular exp to free exp though.
You can transfer crew from one tank to another. Because they are not trained for it. They suffer a penalty. Reducing their percentage of skill. You can retrain them. However to retrain them to 50% it costs 20k credits. And 75% requires gold.
I have my MS-1 crew up to 70% and you can see a difference at that level.
Anyways. More about the game play. This game sorely lacks a tutorial or something. Maybe it was on the site.
Bushes can conceal you if you're not moving or shooting.
Radios are important. They allow others to see what you see if they are in range. Especially important for SPGs to rain hell on people.
When you aim, your turret is slower then your mouse, so panicking and firing right away is bad. You can see where your turret is aiming by a green dotted reticule. The wider the reticule. The less accurate.
There are various things that can be damaged on your tank. Some can be repaired, but at half of their original performance. Individual tracks are most common and often place the final nail on your metal tomb, unless they repair in time. Your engine can be damaged and you're stuck again. Half speed engine sucks anyway. Your turret can be damaged and lock up. Fuel tanks can be hit as well, though often they just cause a lot of damage.
Crew can be incapacitated too. Such as losing your radioman and no longer seeing anyone else on the mini map.
I think the game can be fun. I've found moments where in a crappy start tanking I was able to bum rush through enemies. Damaging several and destroying another. But it can also be abrupt and it's easy to make a mistake. Like using a BT-2 and crashing into a river you can't go through. : /
