In the office of the three heroes, everything was the same, quiet and suffering from a less than satisfying income. Defeating the Battle Ox managed to get them a bit of quick cash, which was partly spent right back on the repairs thanks to a certain headstrong hero on the team... but that was the only job they got for the past months, again. Leaving their financial situation aside, there were plenty of reason for them to be hired if it wasn't for a certain rival getting in the way, the nation had not been peaceful. Recently there have been incidents of gas leaks, affecting a large number of people. The results were quite strange, it caused most of the victims to lose their mind in some ways, the serious ones even lost their brain functions and pass away from complications. However, most of these incidents were solved, not by existing heroes but new heroes that happened to be among the crowd and have their powers awakened 'just in time' to help.
The media, after noticing the pattern, began to report about the incidents in details. Data were gathered and produced, creating concerns among the mass, and of course the government claiming it was just false news created to turn individual incidents into something more serious. Pressure from the citizens have eventually persuaded not the governments, but several of the major superhero groups to move in to do investigations themselves. The results came that the gas could have been caused by certain individuals, with a possible link to a villain known as Dr. Pro E. Lium, a mad scientist known to carry out all sorts of inhumane experiments. Now that they have a possible lead, they could just take out the villain, right? It was not so easy, around this time the villain had intensified his attacks, giving the existing hero groups very little ability to carry out further investigations. With most of the heroes busy protecting the nation from the gas attacks, there was no one really to stop the mad scientist, except for the army. One problem here is that the army did not move, the government continues to deny the incidents, and refused to send in the army to deal with "petty crooks." But even with so much things going on, their group still didn't receive any request to move in, until now.
"Big news everyone!" Chihiro, their secretary and treasurer, comes into the room with something to announce. James who was just laying there on the sofa, would have ignored it if it was Cohen that was making the claims, but turned to see what she's got to say. "The Golden Eagle's office was attacked early this morning! By the same kind of gas that were used for unrestricted attacks in the past months!" Now if it's just a regular office it is another thing, but we're talking about the workplace of one of the major superhero groups of the nation, where it would be guarded at all times by a large number of their own members against possible villain attacks. It is similar to if a street thief had decided to enter a military base to rob an armed soldier, and succeeded in doing so!
That certain was a big news, big enough to move the less decent hero's gaze from her chest to her face, and have a greatly surprised look. "Seriously? What happened to their defenses? They're not like us in a worn out office, how did they get hit just like that?" She shook her head, it was a breaking news, there were not enough information about the incident yet. "The group kept the incident covered as much as possible, but I did find out that the attack disabled almost all of their employees without special powers, and that the heroes were all defeated one way or another." That's a lot of heroes to go through, if it's Dr. Lium that carried out the attack, he's packing some serious weapons or minions with him. "So... what are our roles in this?" The greedy office lady puts on a much more happy face, and uses thumbtacks to put out a piece of paper on the wall, it was a poster of Dr. Lium, with a huge number under his photo. "The hero groups had pressured the ministry of prominent abilities to issue a bounty for the villain responsible for this, the producer wants you three to head out and deal with the problem." Might be a problem, considering none of them know where the target might be. But that small problem gets solved pretty quick, from a direct announcement from Dr. Lium himself after he high jacked the TV stations.
"Foolish and weak humans of the past, hear me, I am Dr. Pro E. Lium, the greatest genius to have ever existed! Praise me, for I have discovered the secrets of evolving humanity to the next stage, the ability to obtain the same powers as the heroes and villains! You lots at the academy might have shunned me for your own foolish goals, but that ends today! Observe!"
The screen turns to a live footage of a sealed room of some sort, with several hundreds of people in the room, trying to get out. "Prepared to be amazed, by the truly genius mind of Pro E. Lium!" The people inside began to feel strange, doing random, harmful actions such as attacking others or themselves. They scream and yell like wild animals, jumping and rolling, pure chaos issues. This chaos continues until many of them simply drops to the floor, seemingly dead, with the exception of perhaps one or two. Those survivors looks at themselves and their surroundings for a few moments, in shock and in confusion, before they seem to be able to use some sort of super human powers just like heroes and villains. "My new invention! It has an amazing 1% chance average of giving super human powers to those that inhale the gas! With this we can turn everyone on this planet into the new generation! Those that do not gain powers are unfortunately a sacrifice for the greater good, but we will not forget what they have done for the evolution of mankind! Now come forth people! Those that wishes to join the rank of a new humanity, come to my lair and receive your treatment! Let us fight off those conserving fools that hopes to chain down our glorious revolution with their laws and traditions!!"
"....Well, now we know where they are, but I certainly don't want to fight through hundreds of villains. This is work for the army, not just a handful of people!" James certainly was concerned about the situation here, fighting the doctor and perhaps a few minions is one thing, fighting what could possibly be a coalition of villains is another story.
But the army did not move, why? The doctor gassed most of the military bases in the nation, causing massive casualties and panic, so it'll be up to the superheroes to deal with this. Then there's another problem, not one is the doctor waiting for new recruits, their new members are actively attacking existing hero groups. Almost all the major hero groups are too busy to head out to deal with the doctor, with too many of their own employees to protect against possible gas attacks. The office of our trio were not affected, why? Who would care about a tiny group that's on the blink of bankruptcy?
"It will be true that the villains would be deployed out, leaving their base less defended... or maybe it's just the doctor wanting to put on a show for his 'new age.'" Their target seems to be the kind that likes to put on a show, what better would it be to defeat a group that contains a hero that defeated the famed Golden Eagle? Nevertheless it would be a gamble. "What do you think, Maru?" He turns to look at their leader, who happened to be here for once, to see what the rest of the group might think about this possible operation.

The boss was, in fact, here for once as was noted. What he did the rest of the time varied. 'Ninja things' was his usual excuse for it, but who could really know for sure? He was a mysterious character. It wasn't all bad, he usually brought back food for a few days when he returned. Being as poor as the rest of them that raised questions of how he got it, but hey, who were they to overlook free grub in their position? Either way he helped keep the group going and that was what was important!
Actually speaking of that no one actually ever saw him eat anything, or drink for that matter, despite professing a love for a beverage called "Matango"...well whatever. Who cared about something like that at a time like this?
He was actually looking out the window when their secretary had came in. The streets outside weren't exactly quiet, and with the news rolling in from here and the T.V. the reasoning for that was starting to become pretty clear. No major military or government facilities were nearby their office, so the riots and strife weren't too bad, but people below were definitely in a panic as the word trickled down the grapevine as to what was going on. The fact that they could very well be in Doom's Day scenario didn't exactly go over the heads of the common folk, and many were panicking and attempting to flee the area or take advantage of the ensuing chaos. For now the law enforcement was handling it, even if they weren't, heroes like them clearly had bigger priorities to be focusing on than street crime.
"It's a risk we have to take, no matter what the doctor has in store for any would-be interlopers," Maru said, turning on a heel to face the rest of the cast when spoken to. If one didn't look too close he'd pass for a human, but greater scrutiny revealed the unnatural color of the skin and eyes pretty quickly. To say nothing for the lack of breathing. Although looking like a robot, the boss said he was a 'liquified human'. Papers told about those but none have really been seen in half a century, and Maru had always been a machine as long as they'd known him. "If he fails, we're still liable to go bankrupt with the way things are going. If he succeeds, we'll arguably be worse off. In a world of all heroes, we'll be out of a job. I don't intend to work a 9-to-5 ever again, I don't know about you two."
The two people referred to were his fellow superheroes, of course. Chihiro and the producer, of course, still did work those exact kind of professions. But for superhumans like them, asking them to lie down and die might just be more palatable as an alternative. Then they really would be nobodies for the rest of their lives.
Before going on he leveled a finger at the television, which control of had by now been wrested back from the control of the docto - for the moment. A mugshot of the man and his wanted poster sat on the screen, which Maru pointed out to them in particular. Specifically, the long line of numbers beneath his name that indicated how much the authorities were willing to pay for bringing him in, exactly as the woman had explained prior. "Besides, look at that bounty. We'd be set for months on that cheque! We couldn't afford to turn this down if we wanted to! And with this job to our names, no one will ever be able to sideline us again. We really will be glorious after that."
He nodded to himself with finality, his mind was already made up. The liquified man's hand dropped to his side and gripped the hilt of his weapon. At a glance it appeared to be a straight sword with a triangular tip and a hook sprouting just forward of the guard. His teammates knew it was actually blunt, a custom creation mixing aspects of a ninjato and tekkan or kabutowari. Since they were expected to take people back alive in their line of work the truncheon would be much more useful than an actual edged weapon, although the tip was sharpened in the event that would be needed. A formfitting bodysuit of carbon fiber and kevlar with gel inserts clung tight to his frame for armor with a looser set of dark, profession-appropriate clothes overtop of that. He did very much look like the shinobi his namesake implied. One of the benefits of being a robot was he never actually needed to take any of this stuff off, so he was pretty much always set to hit the road at a moment's notice.
Which he told them. "I am prepared, ready yourselves to move. I don't expect an easy fight - the longer we wait, the more 'recruits' the doctor will have at his side to make it harder. Alongside the hordes of 'failures', I expect he'll keep them handy to act as distractions for people like us. Bring anything you think you'll need, then pack extra. We won't be coming back until we're won, or not at all."
His tone grew more solemn as he spoke those final two lines, adding gravity to what he was saying in hopes his teammates would really think about it. They stood at the threshold of change now. Doing nothing would see them simply continue to wither away slowly, as they had been for a long time. They could not go back, only forward down one of two paths - failure and death, or victory and their continued survival. It wouldn't be an ordinary job, they had to grasp that going in if they were to have a hope of pulling it off.

Cohen was drinking some water in his room as he was sulking on another failure though it wasn't particularity his fault fully. Ok it was but that was besides the point he soon took out a old locket he had for years and opened it. It showed a teenage girl and himself wearing old Hero Academy uniforms, ah those truly were the days he remembered. If things didn't end out the way they did, if he just controlled his temper.. its not it matters much. The past was the past and much of the world has moved on though internally he hasn't completely. Soon sighing he soon comments, "I better work on my costume all the fighting Battle Ox kinda of made new holes."
With much of his time working on his costume, Cohen only came out to eat and then head back. After all his costume takes some time to repair with not much funds and risks involved didn't help much either. Once his work was done he soon came out and wondered what the hell was going on as soon the secretary came in to begin telling the 'news'. To Cohen this meant trouble, with hearing what exactly going on he began to narrow his mind on this and was silent the entire time. Contemplating what was going on then hearing what happened at Golden Eagle's Office his face went up. One would think joy would be seen on his face seeing the asshole finally get his but that was not his reaction. Another far more fear in the back of his mind, if Golden Eagle one of the best heroes among the other best office was attacked meant this situation was way more worse then what was stated. Another far more personal thought and lead back to Super Nova and what was her current status. That thought process completely stopped when suddenly the television changed into the very villain who caused this mess.
"Great... such a typical villain announcement.", Cohen soon commented at this which of course he turned to the others sizing up their reactions.
"What Army James, think about it if Dr. Pro E. Lium has done is true its highly likely that army is already been taken out.", Cohen pointed out, it was weird government was doing nothing and the army was MIA. Any normal nation would of already called for martial law, heroes be damned. With now even their fearless leader and he was completely right on the regard of funds, without it their office was going to disappear. Wait that is exactly was to their advantage and also the highest gamble their Team Glory can make.
"Wait if all hero offices been attacked and highly likely government is too, why haven't they even come to ours?", Cohen soon stated in an heavily suggestive manner of meaning something else. Waiting for a second from all their responses he would soon give the answer anyway.
"They don't even consider us here a threat, in fact they would not be expecting anything like you stated earlier. They would be defenseless is highly probable, hell even chance most of their best villains who joined up with him would be too busy dealing with other hero teams. I agree with Maru, we have to move in quickly as possible. Now the good question... how are we going to get there and how to deal with this?", Cohen soon stated as whatever was decided it would end with same result. Cohen getting his costume fully on and in fact taking out all the best gear that he been maintaining and keeping for a rainy day.
They be heroes but much of The Pitman's current gear now was not the original he used during his Prime Years as a rising star. No now he was using his old mentor's old gear from the 1960-70s. From old Grappling hooks to various old school gadgets which looked hilarious to heroes of the modern age. Though that maybe true one thing these old gadgets had over newer technology. They could take a beating, far more reliable but most importantly they were all analog and required a lot of work. With everything put on his mentor's old utility belt and all was left was his mask and cowl he looked in the mirror at himself. In fact looked like a hero out of time and another era. His face showed the morning shadow and unshaven face, as well the face of looking exhaustion which was uncanny for a man his age. He had no choice in his circumstances but this was the only way. Taking his old locket he looked at it one last time in his mind he was worried about her the very girl who stole his heart all those years ago and at same time the same girl who stabbed him in the most brutal way a woman could. Leave him for another man and the man who was not a 'true hero'. The trials they will soon face will be hard and will likely push him to the very limits of himself. Even if the Golden Eagle was man he hated and even if that man now sired a son with the woman he loved. He remembered what his mentor the original Pitman stated in his head.
A True Hero does not think, no he will save even if it means no glory or fame. A Hero doesn't require that, even if the team he was in was itself an irony of Team Glory. It didn't matter, here he trusted all those here even if everyone here was a bit insane. He was too a point insane created of his own making his own mantra of being a hero. After all that is all a hero needs, guts and courage to save those who cannot be saved. Regardless of the odds, which soon Cohen smirked at himself as put the mask on. The Mask of a Hero, The Mask of a Coward a man who fell from grace. No this was not a mask of any of that but the Mask of simply; The Pitman.

"I suppose you two are right, it'll be better to deal with it now than to wait and let him gather his forces. How are we going to get there? On foot?"
James walks over and grabs a few things from his locker, while talking to Chihiro about their method of traveling. They do have a company car, but it'll likely be totaled if they drive it a villain's base, assuming it'll even survive the ride there. They were promised that it'll be dealt with in a bit, so they each move to put on their equipment.
The melee fighting hero had a completely different set of tools from his two teammates, a large robe that is red in color. The robe if inspected clearly is actually not cloth, but made out of thin weaved metal alloy that provides both defense and mobility in their current form. The robe could also be used as a weapon if slashed towards them, similar to using piano strings as weapons. Other than the robe itself, sets of metal nets are hidden underneath, providing a second layer of protection, and the ability to be thrown out to attack. Lastly, the robe could be partly or completely dismantled into soft whip blades that could be used to attack enemies from a range, or pull them over like a hook chain.
His equipment seems quite unmatching from his usual fight style, but that's exactly why he chose this set of half weapon, half armor gadget to make up for his weakness. His regular fighting style is focused on single or small number of targets at very close range, a great disadvantage against enemies at long range or with high numbers, it also provides him with the defense that he'll need before he could get close to use his fists and ability.
"Oh lighten up Maru, we'll be back, give ourselves more confidence here. Look at the Pitman over there with his grin, he's obviously not worried, so lets take up his attitude too. If bad comes to worse I'll donate your bank account and belongings... into mine."
James is really the one that is the least serious out of the trio, considering his less than sacrificing reason for taking up the job, he's really not that into the whole hero save the world kind of idea as much as Cohen would be. Nevertheless when you'll eventually get cause in the disaster, now would be a great time to stand up and fight while there's allies still around, not to mention the fairly fine pay as a bonus.
"Alright gentlemen, the producer has gotten us a ride, it'll be parked at the parking lot and you'll know it's for us once you see it. Good luck everyone, come back with the spoils!"
The trio did not have to wait long, in just moments time their ride is ready, they didn't get much info about it though. So wondering about that a bit, what could Chihiro have mean that they'll know it once they see it...? Which turns out to be true, as they got to parking lot, there's a large cargo truck with some scrap armor plating weld on the front and sides as protection.
"I... guess this is it, the keys are still inside too."
He was kind of expecting a car, a cargo truck was not exactly classy, but at least it's better than walking. Seeing that it's a cargo truck he went over and check the load to see if there's anything useful for the mission, but turns out to be empty, well, nothing is perfect. James got into the driver's seat, and the three begins to head towards the location that the mad doctor had announced, at a speed that's not quite within the city limits. On the way you can see fights taking place between minor heroes and equally minor villains, taking the opportunity to loot and fight. There was little they could do, except for James running a few small crooks over and waving at their fellow heroes, who seems to get some thanks from them in return.
It did not take very long before they arrive at the outskirt of the city, where a tunnel seems to be in place, perhaps it was hidden there all along without anyone noticing. If the doctor wasn't lying, then the tunnel should lead to his base, and that's where the three of them would want to head to. There's a few armed guards stationed outside, holding small arms and keeping watch.
"We got no intel on what's inside, or where the doctor might be, so we'll have to fight our way in and search thoroughly through quite some numbers.
On the way there, the team discusses about how they'll get in and how to stop the doctor. The came with the idea of using the truck after James road-killed another minor villain. The transport vehicle is not built for speed or mobility, but it does have some weight. They decided to charge right in at max speed, plow through anyone that gets in the way, and the team can jump out at the right timing. Each member can search an area of the base, hopefully find the doctor before he realize that the trio are coming for him, and stop him in case he wants to escape. You might think that'll make their rank thin, but hey, what ranks do they have with three people versus unknown numbers? They'll just have to give it their all and hope for the best. They don't have much time to slowly sneak in, nor is it within their expertise to do(with the exception of Maru) anyways.
"Leave the distraction to us, go for it robo leader."
=
=
Really the villains were expecting heroes to come and challenge them, not as much as a raging armored rhino hitting them at close to 200 kilometers an hour, the guards at the front gate hurries to jump aside as they realize the truck is not going to stop for them. The weak fence gate that surrounds the tunnels are rammed right apart, not even slowing down the heavy vehicle one bit. Alarms boom as they finally figured out that it was an attack, armed guards emerges from the front and sides to begin shooting at the truck. The bullets are mostly deflected by the armor on the vehicle, while other shots breaks and flies through the windshield, but fails to make contact with the driver thanks his robe that he uses to cover himself. The inside of the truck did get shot up a bit, but it wasn't too big of a problem.
As they approach areas that seems to lead deeper into the base, James would give the others a thumbs up to get them to jump off, while he continues to drive this vehicle like a mad drunk. After the two is gone and it's his turn to do so, he would break the brakes of the truck with his ability, and weaken the structure of the truck itself. After he jumps out, the truck would keep going for a bit, crashing into either the wall or some other object, and explodes in a fiery blaze.
The base itself are made out of corridors, big enough to fit a few dozen people or even a small car if you squeeze it through, with little cover to use. The design of the hallways makes it difficult to have rapid breakthroughs, at least it would have been if they were not dealing with merciless super heroes like the trio here. The hallways connects to different rooms, where more minions and traps await the invaders, further causing problems to the heroes.
James fights several minions as they attempt to attack him, deflecting bullets with his robe, punching those that gets too close and using the robes to choke those from a distance. He was sure to maintain a position where only a handful of grunts could fight him, in order to reduce the chance of getting mowed down by concentrated fire. He would use his robe or nets to pull enemies over, using them like projectiles and launch them right back at their friends, useful for both attacking and defensive purpose.
There are mainly three different types of grunts in the base, with one type fighting each one of the heroes. James are mainly fighting mercenaries, likely hired by the professor to aid his goals, who mainly fights with firearms and military based melee combat. Maru would find himself facing what seems to be Samurais, not just ones with katanas but also ones with spears and rifles. While they seem to look out of date, their fighting ability sure aren't. The muskets seems to be modified and are firing at equal if not superior ability than modern firearms, the swordsmen and spearmen are well trained to fight in coordination with each other, making use of their numbers to hope to suppress the fast and agile hero. Lastly on Cohen's side he'll be dealing with half human, half mutant like enemies, with none of them sharing exact same traits as each other. Some would be like a human with a pair of gorilla arms, while others could be a man with a total of 8 pairs of arms and legs, and could crawl on the walls and ceiling like a spider.
Each of these types of enemies would be causing a different kind of problem to the three heroes, to make it worse are the doctor's traps and defense systems, weapons such as turrets and mines to traps such as the simple trap hole to the more complicated laser cutters. Not a very fun event for the three of them, at least certainly not for James. At this point he could not spare the risk to hold back, striking with the intentions to kill everyone of the enemies that he encounters, hoping to get his way through as soon as possible. He could only hope that the other two are doing as well as he is, at least for now he did not encounter anything he couldn't deal with... yet.

James's attempt at being positive lifted the ninja's spirits a little, but it was clear he was still rather concerned. The whole thing reminded him of the incident that would see him become a hero originally, all those years ago. A handful of plucky renegades out to fight an army and save the world. They won, but it was a bittersweet victory that still cost came at quite a cost. Regardless he attempted to perk up, "Maybe you're right. At the very least I'm made of metal; if anyone's going to live, it'll be me. So if you both aren't worried, why should I be?" He said and clapped both of the other heroes on the back before heading out to see about their ride.
Chihiro was right, it would take a blind man to miss that thing once they were standing in the same room. A hastily armored up cargo truck - where did the producer even get this thing? And where did he find the time and manpower to modify it? Not much use questioning it. The guy always came through in a pinch and this was just the kind of ride they needed in a situation like this.
Maru opted to hop into the bed of the truck rather than the cab. It would allow him the most freedom of how to dive out and engage, and also the fastest escape should something terrible happen. Nothing of the sort occured along the way as James drove it out of the garage and down the road. More than a few "speedbumps" were "encountered" along the way, but frankly, they were in no position to complain about dealing with these criminals in a proactive manner. Taking advantage of an opportunity like this inclined the ninja to give those villains that got to kiss the bumper little sympathy, they'd reap what they sowed. As they approached the Doctor's base his guards were given similar treatment; put face to face with an armored 6x6 barreling towards them and made to decide if they were ready to meet their maker or wanted to live.
Most wisely chose to live and dove out of their way, sending sporadic return fire towards the truck. The majority was absorbed by the plating, and if not that, the truck's already sturdy walls. Those stray rounds that did manage to penetrate didn't end up hitting Maru, and the lack of screams and curses lead him to believe his two allies were alright as well as they plowed through the gate and down into the tunnels that composed Dr. Lium's sanctum.
-
Once the signal was given Maru waited until Cohen jumped off before doing the same. He waited for the truck to barrel through another gate and create a ton of racket and debris as the fence was ground under the tires and thrown. With the guards nearby preoccupied with getting to safety, the opportunity was taken to disappear out of sight. With one great leap the robot shot upwards straight to the ceiling and clung to it with his hands and feet. He let James continue to distract the minions as the vehicle continued to plow forward before exploding, himself picking an untaken path and going down it via the ceiling, moving without a sound.
While he was silent the base below him was not. A whole platoon of soldiers stomped noisily down the corridor towards where the truck had crashed, and Maru peered down at them as they did. Much like himself these men and women were dressed to emulate warriors from ancient Japan, samurais to be specific. They moved with trained precision to cover one another, melee fighters with deadly weapons and gunmen with strangely advanced muskets behind for support. They would make a deadly foe if badly engaged, particularly for a swordsmen like himself. However, he had the advantage of surprise on his side.
Maru let the warriors start to pass, waiting until the gunmen had crossed beneath him. It was then that he dropped to the floor and engaged. His tekkan was out before he even hit the ground, using the aid of gravity to assist him in stabbing the pointed tip downwards and through the spine of one of the musketeers. He landed, gripped the truncheon in both hands, and flung the dying man from it with a swing backed by inhuman strength. That bowled over another and sent him falling hard to the ground. The four soldiers left around him began to turn. Maru lunged forward, slamming the 'edge' of the tekkan into the neck of the first man, sending his head to lay crookedly at an unnatural angle. A wide sweep to the side impacted the sternum of the next, knocking him out. He raised the weapon, turned it point-downward, and jabbed it backwards under an arm to impale it through a samurai that was coming up to stab him in the back, and finished the last with a karate chop to the adam's apple.
That took care of a handful and bought him some breathing room. It didn't leave him much time to rest before bullets began to skip off the walls around him from the riflemen he hadn't managed to kill, with them parting ranks so the melee-focused samurai could close in front and support them. Maru kept moving immediately, not wanting to get surrounded. As he did so he leveled his arms backwards towards the mob. A pair of barrels poked out of each limb just behind the wrists, with vents before the elbow snapping open as well. Powerful hisses and gouts of steam escaped the aforementioned vents as gas-powered guns in his arms launched so called 'Evil Fujin Darts'. These ones weren't laced with any poison, just enough power to punch through those breastplates and rack up casualties that would cause the troops behind them to stall as they had to either help or climb over their wounded or dying comrades.
No matter how they dealt with their front ranks coming under fire, it bought Maru time to escape around a corner and break line of sight. Once in the clear he latched back onto the ceiling and pulled his way into a vent, making sure to close it again behind himself. The joints of his robotic body were able to distend and contort unnaturally to fit into the space and remain mobile, just one of its many advantages. He proceeded through the shafts in search of the doctor, glancing through the gratings as he crossed them for clues as to where he was going. Being underground every room had to connect to this system somewhere, it was just a matter of finding the right one.

The time was now to Cohen, which of course meant time to show the world true heroes. Even as he moved with the others into the garage below he was expecting some random vehicle but the moment he saw it he face palmed hard.
"Really... he actually using this vehicle?!! Wasn't it suppose to be impounded!!", Cohen Exclaimed as the other two didn't know what Cohen was talking about.
Of course they wouldn't as they were not around during 'that event'. In fact Cohen should of figured the producer would keep this vehicle for a rainy day and well here it was right in front of his face. Ibn a weird sense this was a blessing in disguise which made sense. After all they lacked any funding and not to mention they are not rich billionaires who can field the best gear a hero can do. Regardless he would soon enter the vehicle with James as they would roar off out of their respective building. On their way Cohen noticed the various crime as they moved on the city when Cohen turned to James noticing he was not slowing down he soon sighed very much expecting this. Cohen was the one with a moral code on 'trying' not to kill anyone. Never the less when blood began to be splattered on the window he just gave up, in this dire situation sometimes you got to break a few rules even if its against your moral codes.
"Well it is against my policy... but fuck it.", Cohen finally commented as they moved to the location of the good Doctor's base of operations.
Taking a look through the window shield he soon pondered how to enter, to be notice or not to notice. The biggest issue was the time they had to stop likely the extermination of most of mankind. Never the bless he held on tight as James began to move forward as bullets began to hit the vehicle as well blood in front of them.
"We are totally going to be convicted for murder after this!!", Cohen commented then knew it was soon time for him to jump out with Maru then adds, "Well better convicted then most of mankind wiped out!"
He would soon open his door at the right timing he then adds, "You better not die James!! I expect you to be in prison with me!"
In a weird and sort of hilarious way these two working together was not as bad relationship as one would expect. Being together long enough even if they disliked each other to a point they still respected each other just as much. He quickly jumped off using the power he had he would soon flip and land perfectly on the ground without even much effort. Though a small crater would be seen where he landed due to the speed he was moving and him abruptly landing. His hand was also on the ground to give him balance as well and if under another circumstance he moved like the professional heroes people always saw. Once he got his bearing he soon saw his own boss also land out which he soon nodded to him.
"Remember boss its up to you to take out that good Doctor. James and I will deal with everyone else.", Cohen soon added as one final say to their captain of their team.
It was in fact in a way in Cohen's mind the most sense the man himself was an expert in subtly well he and James were the opposite. Not to mention it made the most sense out of all heroes of the world the very one who had most personal history with was Maru. Soon after that he quickly looked around at the corridor nearby and began to run. He began to think in his mind what would be best thing to do now, especially with the gas itself would be a problem. Possibly he had a facility that produced the gas... wait if that is true there might be a way to try to refuse the affects! He was no scientist but there might be someone bound to know how to do it! Figuring that was the best thing to do he continued to move forward through the corridors until he ran into his first problem.
"Well fuck... why am I not even fucking shocked.", Cohen commented as he ran into mutant like humans that might possibly be experiments.
Now what to do, these things may or may not even have their own thought process. In the back of his mind he knew they were probably once human but now they were nothing but monsters. With a heavy heart and with time was the essence he soon readied himself.
"Please... Forgive me.", Cohen soon mutters and then moved forward towards the mutants.
His multi force soon activated throughout his body at enough killing force, time was the essence, mankind was at the brink of extinction level crisis. To protect the people to save everyone Cohen must break one of his core values, to do not kill. Whatever the case he would attack the first enemy at large force if the attack his the sheer force would literally blow the body of the mutant back with bone crunching force.

"Prison? You have fun there picking up soap, I'll enjoy my life in a mansion as a celebrity! Now get going!"
Clearly he can just say it was for self-defense, even if he did just drive a giant truck into their home. Any amount of 'self-defense' is valid when your opposition is trying to destroy the world, right? Anyone that says otherwise would be on the receiving end of his self-defense as well. James was not exactly the noble hero kind, in fact, if he wasn't hired by their group he may as well be borderline villain in terms of how he gets things done. Closer to a mafia boss than even a corrupted cop, sometimes you'll want someone like him on your side to be more familiar with underhand tricks, like the ways to get them out of the bad picture of killing a few hundred people on their way to the doctor.

[James]
For someone that seemingly rely on hand to hand combat, James sure is bringing out all sorts of techniques and tactics in this battle against the armies of mercenaries. Weakening pieces of the floor enough to be pull out to be used as shields, collapsing branches of hallways with soldiers still within them, he's like a human tank that are trampling a bunch of helpless primitive soldiers.
"Hey! Take some economic courses! Your wage means nothing if 99% of the world's wiped out you know! Your precious cash would worth as much as Zimbabwe Dollars!! And your life would worth less than an ant in front me!"
He wasn't just striking without hesitation or mercy, he was striking with the intention to kill, every one of his hits aims at his opponent's vital points. Eyes, neck, heart, kidney, crouch, any locations that would result in serious injuries or death would be his targets, resulting the many bodies behind him who are either near dead or fatally disabled. He's got no time to watch his hits here, not with the world in danger, and it's not very hard when you treat it like a job instead of killing a human being. Many if not all of the bullets have little effect on his robe like armor, which deflects the ammo that are flying towards him, some even hitting other mercenaries from the ricochet.
It did not take long before he broke through their defense, and arrived a large room with all sorts of strange plants and materials. The place seems to be a storage room, possibly parts for the mechanical weapons in the base, or maybe the ingredients for the doctor's gas, either way he should wreck the place before continuing on. Now there's two problems, a small one, and a big one. The small problem is he lacks the ability to easily blow up the place, at most he can weaken the ceiling and bury the goods, but that doesn't mean they'll be destroyed. The bigger problem is one the main thing that got his attention here, namely a silver metallic figure that has the appearance of many blades on it.
"....Fillbran, I believe that's your name?"
"Looks like I'm getting famous as well, even some random hero knows my name."
The light in the room turns on as they speak, revealing the figure that stands before the close range fighter. Fillbran is either wearing an armor or is full robotic, not even showing a bit of flesh or hair on him, with sharp swords making up his humanoid structure. His upper torso is the main part that makes him different from a normal person with armor, it's the shape of a crescent moon, something that a human could not possibly have in terms of body structure. Fillbran is talking but he doesn't seem to have a mouth, and his eyes glows with a yellowish light, perhaps he's a robot?
Fillbran is a well known mercenary, mostly hired by the villainous side against heroes, and have many heroic kills on his hands. The government had declared him a high rank villain, one that even the most famous heroes should be wary if coming face to face with him.
"I've heard of you alright, can't believe you're working under Pro E. Lium."
"The pay is well, and I get to fulfill my wishes of dealing with a few stains I had in the past."
By that he was referring to the three corpses in the room, hanged up by having stakes ram through them from bottom to top. The bodies are greatly mangled, cut in many ways and directions, but judging from their costumes they were heroes that managed to defeat Fillbran in the past. Not a very fun sight to James, he's got no fetish in guro and blood.
"I don't suppose you could let me pass you? We're strangers and we have nothing against each other."
"That won't do, I'm on a payroll after all, and I won't mind having some new collection here in the room."
Looks like talking his way out of this is not a valid option, violence it is, simple and direct. The two got ready for battle, before charge at each other with a kick to the ground to increase speed. At first, James tries to use his robe to withstand Fillbran's blade arms but was quite horrified to realize that he could cut them right through. Immediately, the human fighter moves and dodges the slash, then delivers a kick to the side of the sharp assassin. He was aiming for the more blunt parts, but even so he could feel the blades scratching against his skin through the armored robe. Feeling lucky that he delivered the attack through his armor, or else hitting the blades at high speed could have cut his limbs right off. Fillbran gets knocked back by the kick, but otherwise seems fine, the attack did not do any noticeable damage to him.
"Impressive. The second fool behind me got his arm cut right off when he fought me earlier, you're the first to dodge my attack so cleanly... but lets see how much more can you take."
"Sorry, the only invitation I accept are from beautiful women, not from some sort of sword robot like you."

[Maru]
After dealing with squads after squads of enemies, Maru would eventually pick up a few clues that he might be interested in. The word that might catch his eyes would be 'Liquid,' 'Test Subject,' and "Weapon." If he so decides to head towards this direction, he would find himself in some sort of weapon storage. It wasn't just any weapon storage, it contained not just guns and explosives, but the more artistic ones such as swords and armor as well. Neatly placed on racks and shelves, the place feels like a museum for weapons, kind of feels out of place compared to the rest of the lab.
As if sensing the intruder that entered the room, a presence that was not felt seems to have arrived. It is quite strange because there was no sign of it beforehand, which could only mean that he or she had just arrived in the place. Who could it be? That simple question is soon answered, but not in a way that Maru might have expected to. A small pool of liquid begins to form on the ground, before raising up like a geyser, and forming a humanoid shape. It was something that Maru would likely be very familiar with, something very close to himself, a Liquid Human. The one that appear in front of him feels like a ronin, a lordless Samurai that travels the land. Lacking the armor that the swordsmen outside that Maru had been fighting uses, instead only forming a light Japanese robe, further suggesting the figure have some sort of Japanese heritage.
"Muramasa Ryuunosuke."
That was all he said, perhaps declaring his name, before getting into a combat stance. He lowered his body slightly so that he could move at any timing, his knees are slightly bent to allow him to spring his body into action. Holding the handle of a sword to his side, keeping the blade still in the sheath, ready to unsheathe it at any moment. Even before the blade was drawn, Maru would realize that this is no normal swordsman (other than the fact that he's a liquid human), and would not be a simple battle in any means.
The feeling was not wrong, within a flash the swordsman draws his sword at extreme speed, a slash powerful enough to cause a vacuum slash that flies towards Maru. The ranged slash is completely invisible, as it is formed from quick moving air, however these air contains enough power to cut through even solid concrete. Making contact or not, the slash would continue forward and forming a huge gap behind where Maru was at, proving the powers of the slash.

[Cohen]
While Cohen is throwing aside his morals and defeating the mutants ahead, he could eventually arrive at a lab of some sort. The lab is filled with now empty pods, suggesting that the mutants that the Pitman were fighting was created here, or confirm it because more and more are jumping out at him. After he defeats most of them, with their ranks now thinning out, Cohen might realize that one pod in the middle remains closed all along. That was a fact that did not continue for long, the hatch on the pod begins to open with a loud hissing sound along with a wave of white smoke that covers much of the room. When the smoke clears, Cohen could see a man in his 40s walking out of the pod, looking at his surroundings before stopping at the sight of the hero.
"You... you are... The Pitman!!"
He slowly walked towards the hero, with all the mutants stopped in their track, seemingly afraid of something. What exactly are they afraid of? They weren't worried about the hero before, why are they now? Are they... afraid of this man?
"You, you will pay for what you have done... so call hero!"
Cohen might not recognize him, but that's normal, the hero have actually not met the man at all. However Pitman was no stranger to him, the man will never forget the hero's face.
"I'll tell you all right, I'm Odell Dio! That name strikes a bell doesn't it? No? Then let me remind you, your flashy show with that bird!"
Perhaps that would bring some hints to the hero, the fight with his rival did not exactly take place in some wasteland, it was in the city and that means a lot of collateral damage. Odell's family was among the injuries caused by the fight, with blocks of concretes landing on his family and himself, killing his wife and children while leaving himself paralyzed for life. The man swore revenge on the bastard that couldn't even take on a nameless hero, the whore that was the cause of the fight, and the demon that was the cause of everything that happened. But what can he do? He's a regular person with no super powers, he's couldn't even move his legs, that was when a doctor contacted him. Dr. Lium thought he could make use of the man's hatred towards heroes, and convinced him to become a test subject. The results was amazing, Odell had accepted and adapted to almost all the experiments that Dr. Lium tried on him, and now he will finally get to avenge his family.
After he's done talking, he did not give the hero much time to explain or apologize, words won't be enough to solve anything here. The man yells in anger before his lower body noticeably shifts in shapes, first into a pile of gore and meat chunks, before reforming into the body of a horse. Odell's arms transformed the same way, changing into a pair of huge Gatling Guns that looks like they are welded onto his flesh directly. He also seems to have transformed himself a set of clothes, a blue army cap, looking somewhat like an American soldier in the 1800s.
He fired a small burst towards Cohen, and everyone around him. The bullets seems to be flesh, but that did not weaken their power one bit, the shots easily pierces through the mutants and machinery in the room. It wasn't aimed to kill Cohen yet, so he should have plenty of time to dodge it, nevertheless if he don't react in time he would be hit by more than just a few of these shots.
Taking out a cigar from no where, Odell raises up his arms to point the Gatling Guns right at Cohen, huffing out a large cloud of smoke while glaring at him.

"It's not your choice here, I'll be enjoying watching your limbs being taken off their sockets."

"Prepare yourself, comrade. Come!"

"You can leave your apologies to my family in the afterlife! Pitman!!"

Dr. Pro E. Lium wasn't the fool that many villains were. His henchmen overlooked those vents because they actually were too small for a normal human to fit into; Maru managing to do so was a statement of his own ingenuity and not the doctor's failure as an architect. He managed to get through the shafts with little trouble. Every so often the soldiers below did wise up and put a spear through the grates and ducts to check if anything was actually in there, but the agile ninja always contorted himself out of the way, rewarding their attempts with nothing but a disarming silence and dead air. It was pretty hard to get a clear picture through those narrow picture frame-esque viewpoints that he was forced to deal with, but he did catch some choice words that drew him onwards in a particular direction.
'Liquid Weapons? Perhaps this is where the doctor is keeping that gas.'
He bypassed the doors via those same air ducts and then silently displaced the cover so that he could drop into the room with enough silence to make a church mouse envious. Immediately he looked to his surroundings, gazing over the racks of weapons and armor from eras ancient to modern. All of it lovingly maintained, which just made the lack of an apparent keeper all the more conspicuous. But soon enough the perceptive ninja felt a presence just has it felt him, he could feel the foreign mind reaching out to poke at the fringes of his own, and that immediately set him aback. Turning on a heel his eyes fell dead onto the pool of liquid forming on the floor, leaping a short distance back when the pressure of it bursts to build up into a human-sized, and then human shaped, pillar of flesh-colored jelly.
"A liquified human..." Maru said to himself as the figure formed for itself clothing and took up a weapon. It clad itself conservatively, and that worried him to no small degree. It meant that the ronin thought himself stronger without the added weight - he must have unparalleled control of his form.
The ninja gave a short bow, inclining at the hip maybe a handful of inches while simply declaring his name, "Maru". His feet were spread wide and legs bent at the knee, tensing and flexing the pistons in the thighs and calves with a soft hiss of pressure building up for a rapid reaction. His blade sat in the sheath even as the samurai reached for his own, although Maru was fast to see him drawing it. More pressingly he heard it, the boom of air being displaced and rapidly sucked back in behind the slash, whose speed and strength was enough to force even the wind aside as it flew towards him.
He lowered himself further, planting his palms onto the grated floor as the milliseconds slipped by. With all four limbs he bounced upwards like a frog, kicking himself off with enough energy to dig four round depressions into the ground where the balls of his feet and heels dug into metal. Doing this allowed him to leap clear of the slash and the suction wave that followed behind it. He didn't need to look to realize the destructive power of that attack, again he could hear it tearing apart the concrete walls behind him with a noise like an earthquake.
Maru hit the ground and immediately launched into a pair of ninpos to even the score. He clasped his hands together, one in a fist with the other clenched around it save for a single raised index finger. He focused his powerful psionic abilities into the air in the weapon storehouse, rapidly exciting the molecules in it and sending the temperature in the room to skyrocket - easy reaching degrees that would make a normal man sweat. Once satisfied with that he broke his grip on himself and threw both hands skyward with palms open, causing pillars of fire to 'erupt' from the floor. Or so it would appear, in truth, that was just the denser air further down combusting first and then rising upwards as more oxygen was fed upon by the lapping tongues of glowing red, rather than literally summoning fire from beneath their feet. A dozen such fires flared around the room, none hitting him but a few definitely landing close enough to hit Ryuunosuke. The downside to this trick was that the infernos ignited one by one in sequence, so that if he was particularly agile he could duck between each spout. 'Flame Arts' was what this one was called.
It was meant to hurt the opponent, of course, but it was actually just part of bigger trick. Ever the sly one, Maru really did this to trip the bases's sprinkler system in this area and use it to setup his following attack. Water immediately began to pour in and pool on the floor beneath the grate the two stood on. It put out the fires Maru caused, which was good so that it couldn't start making the ammunition in this room explode and cause more headaches, but also provided him with an ample source of raw materials from which to build upon for his next ninpo.
This one came belting out without nearly as much concentration. The shinobi raised his arms in the same pattern, but then drew them down and back, sweeping them forward as if making waves in a pool. The ample water beneath the pair's feet responded to the psionic call of the older liquified human, sending the waves surging forward on invisible puppet strings to crash into the samurai - a man made tidal wave.
This one was simply 'Water Arts'. The high temperature in the room left the water uncomfortably hot, the samurai would have to watch where he stepped or he would be burned by the terrain on his side of the field.
Much like the vacuum slash this one would take a lot of vertical movement to avoid, and he was curious to see if the swordsman would truly have the ability to do so. It would be clear to the ronin that his opponent was trying to gauge his abilities, proving that the intruder here was no slouch either; putting as much brains into his fighting style as muscle and technique.
"Why are you working for the doctor? We aren't weapons, we aren't obligated to fight for our twisted creator!" It had been a long time since Maru had seen another of his kind. Most left a lot to be desired in mental stability. This one already seemed a lot more levelheaded than the majority. So either he was an original like himself, and one of the top of their 'species', or part of a newer generation that were stronger. Whatever the case he assumed the man was working for Dr. Lium willingly, and he wondered what could bring someone to do that after suffering such a treatment. Surely no one would knowingly volunteer for that treatment?
