Man once reached for the stars. But in their hubris they caused their own fall from the proverbial heavens. Faced with annihilation they turned to other sciences and realms beyond. A great calamity occurred destroying their great enemy, but also sending humanity and it's newer creations into chaos. A century passed and much of the knowledge of the past became secluded within secretive groups. The races of man, elf, and dwarf dominated the Western lands. For many years skirmishes ensued between the races. The only thing keeping them from all out war is the ever constant attack of beasts and the occasional demons.
During 0223 A.F. a movement began under a young human prince. He was led by a wise-man with knowledge from the past. They united the humans under a single banner. Not long after overtures to the other races turned into an alliance that became the first Western Empire. The collaboration of the three races led to the creation of the Mana Forge, Mana Capacitor, and Fiber Crystal bundles. Human technology, Elven magic, and Dwarven understanding of forging materials. This led to the creation of the Mana Mech. The mana mech finally gave the Western Empire a means to push back and destroy beasts and demons alike. The light was once more returning to the world. And then it all came apart at the source.
The Emperor who had led them all to a lasting peace and a bright future passed on. In his place a son rose to the throne. Tutored by the same wise-man as his father, it was believed he would follow in his father's footsteps. However he had only one vision in mind. A pure human world. Simultaneously Elven and Dwarven elements in the military were purged. Followed by the Elves being driven from the forests and into the swamps. The dwarves were forced to live in their mountain forges and mining halls. Forced to provide arms for the Empire or face annihilation. They however destroyed the main entrances of the forges and mining halls. They survive quite literally underground.
Many that had followed the previous Emperor rebelled. Combined with guerrilla attacks from Dwarves in tunnel systems. And attempts by the Elves to return to the woods. The Empire came apart at the seams. The central part of the Empire broke into the Western Houses. On the fringes the Dwarves and the Elves fight with lesser houses for territory.
In the Eastern Wastelands, nomadic tribes managed to survive in a harsher more desolate environment. The taming and using of lesser beasts was paramount to survival. Though they lacked established institutions. Traditions and the merger of traditions by marriages between tribes led to the development techniques for traveling to the demon realms. The taming of demons and the harvesting of their organs for the creation of Demonomechs. Very quickly the dominant tribes became those able to create Demonomechs.
The Eastern Tribes had always survived due to being unflinchingly the strongest and so their numbers were few. But the advent of the Demonomechs afforded them safety and growth unseen before. Unfortunately the eastern wastelands were unfit to sustain the population of large tribes. So they moved west. Upon leaving what was known officially as the "Eastern Wastelands" they ran into a small kingdom. The Kingdom of Barrister sat comfortably in a mountainous region known as "The Barrister Pass". Essentially a gateway between west and east. More importantly it was easily defensible. On top of that a dense wilderness separates it and the nearest western faction.
The states in the west did not reach word of Barrister's fall until the tribes of the east were knocking on their doors. Manamechs and Demonomechs face off on the battlefield for the first time.
