The Smoke was in the hair as the flames and the stench of death could seen and felt. Never in its rich history that the unspeakable could of occurred but never the less it had, in his dreams he remembers when it all began. The loss of losing one's family is quite the trauma, with only time can heal such wounds. Though sometimes the pain would continue to be felt even as the years go by and the scars stay forever. The nightmares would continue as it was yesterday, to Asher he never forgot nor forgave. Even as doc Austin would give him special pills from his lab, he called it sleeping pills that were from the east as well he never had it easy. Sometimes they were not enough, hearing the screams and the sound of death all because of a misguided and completely pointless rebellion lead by Bandits. At the time he didn't know but now older he knew, he knew in the end sometimes you must kill a few thousand to say a few million. This Curse would haunt him for the rest of his days as he soon opened his eyes to an quite familiar ceiling. Getting up he soon recognized the cabin he now lived, away from the old mansion he called home it was nothing but a shell and a ruin. Soon getting up he saw the mirror and saw his face, it was young yet it looked different, eyes spoke volumes of the what he had seen in his youth. Nothing good, completely broken his innocence utterly drained from his body now... now all was left was his man. Once getting ready for the day Asher would exit out of his room and soon noticing the small living room combined with kitchen before him. Asher's day begun once more as he would soon begin the fire over the stove and begun his meal for the day. As the hour passes Asher soon would have two plates in his hands one for himself the other for the one who has become a second father. Walking up to a door he soon slid it open and begin to walk down a flight of stairs. Light bulbs could he seen as they were illuminating the way down as he soon came to his destination. Sparks could he seen in the distance and the sound of machines could be heard as well. Upon entering below Asher was greeted by what he had become used to, a laboratory of sorts all belonging to Austin his mentor and his so called regent. Walking up to him who had a pair of googles over his face he was working on some ancient relic of the past. His tools continued to light the area as he soon put one plate down near Austin. "Is it that time already, kid?", Austin soon asked as he worked. Asher soon sat not too far and begun to eat soon replying, "Its always that time Doc, it seems you made no progress like the usual." He of course being rude and continued to eat his meal which itself was not even that good. Even as a noble he had to live off the land like everyone else. As well like everyone else he had to give up half the share of his food to the Paemir Securitate. At the rate things going, they would be lucky if they lived into the winter actually to live even in spring. Such as what has occurred in Paemir, you take out one tyrant out and the locust come and destroy the corpse. That is what Paemir is now, a long given up land now slaves to their own land. The only thing that kept people going was their Pride and their pride itself is nearly spent. "You need to stop that especially when you become of age within a few days. Pretty soon you will have to deal with the Council, though I believe next week the new law comes into effect. Which would mean...", Austin soon stated as he stopped working then turned to his plate. "Which will mean I will lose all this land and the nobility no longer allowed to own anything right? The 5th People's Edict I believe its called? Already read up on it and well not much we can do about it. Its not like I nor Jorge have any power to do anything about it. Paemir is slowly becoming into something else, I am not sure it would even be considered a democracy, new form of Oligarchy? Just change out the nobles and put a few pigs in suits in charge.", Asher then finished as he continued eating. "That mouth of yours is going to get you killed eventually, especially when your titles are revoked in a week.", Austin soon chuckled which Asher soon finishes his meal replying, "Oh whoopie I get to be Viscount for less then a week and then become a commoner. Well anyways I better head out, need some fresh air mind you, though not much freshness left around here." Soon exiting out of the Lab, Asher soon got a basic jacket which he put on himself, if anyone else looked he would look like a commoner. A Viscount who looks nothing like a noble, compared to the rest of the nation especially the south he would be ridiculed. Never the less he soon saw the area before him or lack therefore. Once a vibrant forest now a mix of wooden shattys and cabins with many Paemirians working around the makeshift city. Walking down you could smell the smog as newly made factory's could be seen not far from the distance. As he walked down he soon saw a few Securitate as they passed by him as he moved his head down away from them. Noticing their weapons which looked new he wonder where the heck they managed to get such gear when most people of Paemir were starving. Never the less he continued to walk towards the mountain which he climbed up higher as not far from the distance he saw what he wanted to see. It was an old church that always stood here though he remembered as a child it had a lush forest around it now, it looked like death and smog have surrounded it as well the various people lined up for food and a sermon of the Church of Cosmology. Asher though was not going there no, he soon headed toward the graveyard specifically. As he walked further he soon saw three grave stones that shouldn't be here but they were. Since the rise of the council nobility were barred from their own crypts and now his parents and elder sister were buried in the same place as commoners. Oh have the times changed and nothing ever good comes of it. "Mom, Dad, Sis, I come to visit again. I hope everything is well and all... tomorrow I turn 17 and legally become the Viscount of Valhedge. Though not much of a land I got left, a ton of things happened since then. Since... since it all went to hell.", Asher soon spoke out.

7 Years ago, AC 908
Gun fire could he heard as explosions rocked Valhedge inside the mansion of the Rorke branch of the Clan many servants were moving, a ten year old Asher was being pulled away by his mother by his arm.
"Mom!! What's going on!!", Asher soon cried out as the screams of the death he could feel coming from the city below.
"We need to get out of here Asher, once we escape into the tunnels we will head to the Port of Magnes, there an army is waiting.", his mother soon stated to her young son as everything was falling apart as shelling could be heard hitting the Citadel City.
Asher tried to pull away resisting soon shouting, "What about cous-"
"They are dead Asher!! All of them are dead!! Your father is fighting out there to give us time to escape so we must get out of here!! Once we can get into the Port of Magnes we need to get a hold of your sister, we will be safe in the Mountain.", Regina soon stated as gun fire enter the windows not far one of the servants falling to the ground in blood.
"Run!! Run!!", Regina soon rushed her child as Asher was lead into a hunting room.
When arriving Regina moved quickly to a book shelf as she pulled it opened the clock door which showed a secret passage. Both would soon enter as Regina got a candle as she and Asher moved deeper into the tunnel. The smell of something burning could sensed around them, possibly the mansion was now on fire they had to move. Move to meet with Achmetha who would be waiting on the other side. When the tunnel suddenly showed a bright light from the end of the tunnel as Asher saw his father a bit bloody and with a shot gun on his hand.
"Dad!!" "Achmetha!", both mother and son soon shouted as they saw Achmetha bleeding very badly but still standing.
Hugging him tightly Regina looked at her husband in concern her eyes looking how deep the wound was.
"Don't worry... they just got a lucky shot that is all. Did... did anyone else?", Achmetha soon asked only for Regina's head to nod an no.
"Damn it... damn it if only we knew they were planning this... It has to be them... its no other explanation they couldn't of suddenly caused such a large revolt without being fully organized. Wait... if they are here then.. fuck no so that is their game... we... we got to warn. Shit hide!!", Achemtha soon stated as they put Asher inside a nearby crate then closed it.
Regina and Achmetha would move quickly but to Asher he couldn't see but he could hear. Asher first heard silence then walking... then suddenly a scruffle occur as he stayed inside being silent as much as he could.
"Well Well... Mr. Rorke I presume?", a distinctive voice soon stated.
"I knew it....", his father soon grumbled as suddenly someone being slammed to the ground.
"You all so easily played... so easily used... and all it took was to convince a few raiders to rise to do so.", the voice stated to Achmetha.
"If your here then the real goal must be...!", Achmetha soon says but is interrupted from the man.
"Right you are... but I am afraid you and your entire family will not be here to stop it. Nor will your Duke in fact the end of an era I would presume. The foolish King went with this plan by some only to not realize those so called nobles are all now dead. It was my idea after all, this nation is only a stepping stone for something greater. It is good time for the Clan of Rorke to exit off of the stage.", the man stated more sounds could be heard as he heard the sounds of his mother being dragged by a few men and then slammed to the ground.
"My my Lady Rorke. You have grown more beautiful with age.", the voice then stated.
"You... fucking traitor!!", Regina screamed at the man who only laughed.
"No... I am not a traitor I simply join the most likely to win, which so happens is not even 'you'.", the man soon stated as he continued to hear taps of a walking cane.
"Well it seems we are missing someone, though I don't expect a small brat to live long in this chaos. I believe we must enter the next phase of our plan now!", the voice stated suddenly the sounds of a gun shot could he heard and something falling hard on the floor.
"NO!! No!! Regina!! REGINA!!", his father shouted.
"Oh poor thing, too bad we couldn't use her for entertainment but I fear she would rather fight. Any last words Dragoon Achmetha Rorke?", the man soon stated.
"Fuck You and Go to Hell!", Achmetha soon stated then suddenly another gun shot was sounded, which left another thud.
Asher was covering his mouth the best he could in the darkness his eyes felt like they were burning but he had stay still.
"So what about the kid?", one of the other men soon asked.
"what about him? He won't survive after everything is done, we must move quickly before the Duke catches wind of my plot. Soon... soon this treasure trove of a land shall all belong to me.", the voice stated with an evil chuckle.
Soon the sounds would walk away as hours would pass, Asher forced the crate open the hardest he could and soon took a good look where he was. Outside of the upper part of Valhedge he could see smoke covered everything that made it harder to look. But he could see it... the dead corpses on the ground that belonged to his parents. Both were pale as their faces faces only showed terror in their eyes as Asher dragged himself to their bodies. Unable to comprehend what was going on... unable to figure out what. The only thing he remembered was cry in anguish and couldn't stopped. The last thing he remember were warm hands that grabbed him and a horse that raced through the city.

"If it wasn't for Jorge... I... I would died there with you.", Asher soon told the grave stones.
The smog smelled bad to Asher even as he stood there at the grave sites as he continues, "Sometimes I wished I did... I miss you all. Even now things are harder for the people of Paemir and so much suffering. I cannot die now... not yet... not with so many children who lost their own parents continue to suffer. I... I don't know when I will be back but I promise... I promise the day will come that this church will have green growing around it so you can have a nice scene to watch as you rest. I promise the day the likes of the Council and men of absolute corruption will not be allowed here in Paemir."
Soon going to his knee and touching all three grave stones he soon hears the ruffle of leaves.
"Its time...", a man soon stated a beard was growing on his face but one could recognize the fur cloak over an old Paemir Uniform.
"I know Jorge... it's time... time to leave this all behind. No Longer I am child.", Asher soon stated as he turned back toward the man who saved his life.
__________________________________________________________________________
"A few days ago a great tragedy was felt in the land of Paemir. Many husbands, wives, and children lost in the Crisis. I understand we cannot forgive nor forget, but we as a people must move on!! In their memory we must continue to live on. We the people of Paemir must unite, unite to change the system that has allowed this to happen. To change this entire realm that has nothing but stood by as people suffer and die on the battlefield against Imperial Aggression. The time to talk is over, there cannot be talking when the enemy continues to raise more armies and field more modern weapons in this world! We... we were attacked by the very thing we all feared! It is now time to change as Paemir shall be the light that will ignite the rest of the regions under one cause!! The Just Cause a Cause that is the right thing to do. An New era has begun, an Era of Cold Steel, the era of a new form of warfare!! An Era of-", Neville soon was saying suddenly screams could he heard and a gun shot.
Neville fell from his podium and bloody came out of his mouth and soon mutters, "Fuck you brother.... I hope your Kingdom Rots to death."
__________________________________________________________________________
"I shall become... an Avenger one who will follow the will of Cold Steel. Even if I am alone in this endeavor", Asher soon stated with determination in his eyes.
Jorge soon smiles as he soon replies, "Aye, and you will not be alone in that, you will have an army to back you."

In a dark room, an older man sits in front of a well decorated table, alone and not speaking a word. Before him is a pile of reports, and a single letter that was sent by several nobles from Paemir, the region that had suffered both from war and now from a fiercely burning rebellion. Perhaps it was a mistake to place his trust on Neville only based on his military ability, perhaps he had over-estimated the younger man's ability to rule the land. If only his son was ten years older, if only Neville was just a bit more skilled in the arts of politics and leadership, but all is too late now.
With shaky hands he signed his name onto an edict, accepting the plan that the other Paemir nobles had delivered to him, something that would be able to stop the rebellion. But that plan won't do, alone it is not enough to stop all the problems that the rebellion had created. That problem is solved by another plan from Count Gransela, a quite powerful noble in the Southern region. They need something to quickly stabilize the area, and calming the rebellion alone is not enough. To deal with that problem, Count Gransela suggest to pardon the rebels, and recruit them as Royal Guards. It would take a lot of effort to forgive these people, but from what they have done in Paemir, they prove themselves to be among the most skilled troops in perhaps all of Zalboria. To have an army like this would surely make the Empire think twice before advancing West, which is why the man agreed with the plans.
"I'm sorry brother, someone needs to be responsible for all of this. I won't ask for your forgiveness, but know that I have done this for the Dynasty, for the nation of Zalboria. Rest in peace, Neville."
-
And the results ended up just as planned, the addition in military forces had stopped any ideas from the Empire to take advantage of the situation. Paemir's situation is quickly calmed when the main group of rebels surrendered as Count Gransela's army advances into the area on the King's order, stopping much of the conflict, and providing well needed food and other essential supplies.
Neville, the leader of the war hawks had been assassinated, providing much needed peace through out the nation and allowing it to recover from its losses. On the King's order, the young daughter of the duke will succeed her father when she is old enough to re-assume responsibilities, but for now the region of Paemir shall be ruled by a council of nobles of the region. Count Gransela gained much influence and power for his deed in solving the rebellion, and had reached the position of Marquess, however the position was soon pass to his young son James of Gransela.
The King rarely spoke of the incident after that, preferred to keep it a secret, as it was a great fault on Neville's part. Neville is directly related to the King, such happening would very well damage the image of the royal family. As so, the King tries to tell the public that it was an unfortunate incident that the duke was killed, rather than being the target of a well necessary plot for the nation.
