History:
The newest of the Margraves in the Byrius-Lamarck area, this dynasty also has the pleasure of being one of the most talked about. The family line came into existence over a century ago when a non-inheriting member of the royal house proved himself in battle, so much so that his liege lord granted him land at the edge of the colony. Although this is where the line truly begins, they the family technically traces one line up to Anton Lamarck's father, Kyros, for the sake of completion. The newly minted March of Caliacra was placed in one of the most populous, and dangerous, parts of the Duchy of Lamarck, situated overtop of many mines old and new, and guarding the crossroads to many farms and merchant estates. Crime was absolutely rife here, due to the profit a bandit could make and its distance from the seat of the government. Anton had a hard time dealing with the immense social issues plaguing his new court.
The death of Anton brought about a short regency as the heir apparent, Alexandrel, was held hostage in the Medeen Empire for several years. Upon returning, he had no such issues in handling the problems endemic to his demesne. He murdered, tortured, and extorted his way through the local bandits and gangs, leaving blood and broken bodies in his wake until he had ruthlessly ripped the still-beating heart of the criminal element in his March. Horrified at the bloodshed, the Church of Babel excommunicated him for two decades, though action was not taken against him by the Duke himself because his methods did finally resolve a long running issue in the region. Even so, peers side-eyed the Tzympenos dynasty ever since. Curiously, Alexendrel made heavy donations to the Devan church and Gomorrah cult at this time. Indeed, the common folk under his dominion came to appreciate, and fear, their leader - knowing that he only struck against enemies and lawbreakers, though his rulings on what was or wasn't criminal could be very open to interpretation.
Iulian consolidated what his father had conquered, building up the communities that were now free from danger. The first police elements in the city were established to keep a constant eye on the area; against criminal elements and other nobles both. Lesser gangs were put on payroll to work against their peers, smugglers and such primarily. Crimes that leave victims, however, still wound up wishing that they had never been born. He mended ties with the Church for several years before promptly burning them again by the joining both of his children in marriage.
Although still alive, Iulian is in advanced age, and thus passed the reigns onto the twinned leadership of his children to escape the burdens of power. So far, the pair have only had to impale a few dozen bandits in their estate's front yard. Dragos seems to have a flare for gardening these days, trees and greenery line the streets and fill parks situated below the skylights in the colony's dome overtop of his domain. Pale plants that need no light, origins unknown, climb the stakes in the manor's grounds where bodies once hung decades earlier and add an ethereal sort of beauty to the haunting demesne. Perhaps Dragos is the strangest product of the margrave's line yet.
With the death of the king and the city tense as a result, the world will soon see if the Tzympenos are still a clan to be feared.
