Sahacarn is one of the most industrious planets in the Empire. For good reason as well. It has many guilds the large majority of which are production and mining guilds. Teeming with life the lights on the surface are constantly flickering. Even more impressive then the great industry is perhaps the great administrative infrastructure that runs it and keeps it running at a high efficiency.
Light Carrier Grampis soon arrived at the jump point leading into the Sahacarn Star System. It was greeted by the automated railguns posted near it. Of course they would not fire on even unauthorized civilian vessels. They're merely there as a hold over from previous wars. However they will fire on command of the Sahacarn Defense Subnet.
Grampis made with all haste to Saharcarn's smallest moon 'Iron Fort'. It is the seat of the Military within the star system. Long ago it had been mined out, many of the materials used for the creation of the cities on the planet below, leaving the planet of little use otherwise. It is however a planet of a very sturdy rock. Some guilds wanted to use the rock for concrete and export it. However the military opted to make use of it. As such it was slowly reinforced. The structural reinforcement designed by a brilliant immigrant architect. It was so highly regarded that the military made use of it in reinforcing the structure the Sarcanus ships.
The Iron Fort boasts many docks and bays. Mostly for maintenance, repair, and overhaul purposes. They are not intended to house the fleet. Sarcanus military leaders long ago decided that the Fort could be bombarded by long range kinetic attacks and be destroyed regardless of the defenses. As such it is used to coordinate defense and aide in maintaining the fleet. Not housing it. Even it's repair and maintenance facilities are only a fraction of those needed to keep the fleet maintained.
The dock sealed behind the Grampis as it settled in the dock. Air rushed into the dock and soon the station crews were seeing to the ship. As well as a small delegation officers.
Patriel disembarked with the ship Captain and met the delegation. His father was among them.
"You've heard I assume," Patriel's father remarked without any attempt at formality.
"Yes, she ordered the academy destroyed and the nobles arrested. It's war. She wants a war. We must mobilize the fleet immediately," Patriel replied firmly with conviction in his eyes.
Patriel's father looked at his staff and then back to his son. "As you are aware, we keep a state of readiness at all time. Mobilizing the fleet isn't the problem. The problem is that 1/3 of our fleet is engaged on various assignments. It will take time for them all to return. They have been issued orders to return immediately regardless of the contract they are under." His father explained rather calmly. "In the mean time, we've initiated project Phoenix, returning our mothball fleet to active status."
Patriel nodded. "That will take time. Many of those ships have out modded systems that will require a great deal of engineering. Then there's the matter of crews," he remarked as he felt into step with his father.
"We've initiated protocols to draw up retirees. As well as initiated a series of tests for trainees that have the aptitude to be rushed into service," His father responded calmly.
"Well then I suppose there's not much for me to do here, then?" Patriel inquired with the faintest hint of humor.
"Actually. As you have the most experience in dealing with them. We would like you to speak with the Sassanid. They cannot stand alone. But together we could hold them," His father said in a stern and urgent manner.
"Fair enough. I'll depart immediately. Is there a vessel ready?" Patriel replied immediately. "Better not to waste time."
"Light Cruiser Denizen has been prepped. Along with nine other light cruisers. If the Sarcanus will not come here. You are to hand over command of the vessels to them. Tell them to consider it a small reparation for the son they lost."
"Then I'll leave now," Patriel replied simply and turned to go back toward the docks.
"I so enjoy our family meetings," His father called out as he watched Patriel disappear from view.
The Denizen and the nine other light cruisers started out immediately and formed up before jumping away.
