Solar System Rangua adjacent to Cirene space.
Glasao, large scale moon, once orbited a planetary body, long ago through an astronomical twist of fate the course of an asteroid was altered and subsequently struck the planet the moon was orbiting. Shattering it and leaving the moon in somewhat loose orbit about the remains. The planet's core was shattered into pieces and allowed for easier mining of what would be hard to come by minerals.
The Lesser House Cirene immediately set out to tap such a great resource so close to their own solar system. Putting great effort into the production of a mining and transport fleet. As well as acquiring some improved mining technology.
However what they didn't count on was The Lesser House Sassanid also laying claim to the site. Despite the distance from their own territory and the fact that Cirene had petitioned the Imperial Court for mining rights in the region. House Sassanid used it's political connections to delay the approval of the Cirene claim. The Imperial Court is still debating who should receive the claim.
In the meantime. Supposed pirate ships began attacking the transports and mining ships of the Cirene. Initially they tried to defend themselves. But found themselves unable to cover the entire length of the trade routes they used. Further with their space navy spread so thin, they were soon being raided by pirates in their territory proper. With such a heavy investment in the mining operation. House Cirene stood to lose not only on a long term operation that would greatly improve their financial standing. But also lose political standing in the eyes of the other Houses and those in the Imperial Court.
This all changed when they were approached by House Sarcanus. They offered security for all of their trade routes and the mining facilities. In exchange for sharing in any unique mineral discoveries. Payments were also to be made. But graciously the Sarcanus allowed them to begin payments a few terran months after the Sarcanus had begun security operations. The reputation of the Sarcanus Fleet quickly put to rest the ambitions of the pirates operating in the area. Sarcanus intelligence believes the pirates only acted at the behest of a secondary party. The threat of fighting a proper House navy could not be overcome by coin alone.
For a time it was silent. Then ships bearing the markings of House Sassanid began appearing on long range sensors. Sarcanus sensor suites are somewhat lacking compared to others so they questioned whether it really was Sassanid ships. Sometime later they were fired upon by these ships. The incident repeated three more times. Yet they were nothing more then faint skirmishes. No casualties on either side.
