Have you guys looked into it? I've been faintly following it. Recently they went into open beta. So there's quite a few videos on you tube now. This is a video of Star Base 24. Which is a public quest of sorts. Similar to the public quests in Warhammer.

With the way most RPGs have been recently, I'm not holding my breath for Star Trek. I'm going to wait until the full version comes out before I make any judgments on it.

It's probably not going to change from the open beta. Not a lot anyway. From what I hear. It's more of a stress test then anything else. So they'll not likely change content, just fix server bugs.

I've heard it doesn't leave much in the way of exploration, kinda like DDO.

I haven't looked much into but it has always sounded interesting to me. If they can pull it off well, I'll definitely have to take a closer glance.
From that video, it looks like they're pulling off the three dimensions well. Some other space games can be pretty flat.

Well I hear you can't actually fly straight up like you can in Eve or Homeworld. It's really more like you can ascend and descend. Similar to how flying in WoW works.
The space combat is pretty much the best part of the game from what I hear. All of the good comments have been in regards to combat. Ground combat I hear sucks or just isn't that well developed.
They claimed there would be space exploration missions. Someone commented on a vid that the open beta hadn't released all the content yet. So no one knows the extent of exploration missions.
Being a warmonger though.. I wouldn't mind trying that ship to ship combat. >.>

Then you'll like it.
A lot of the complaints I hear. Are either from hardcore trekkies who flip just because a Fed ship has the option of using klingon disrupters. Or from the elitist MMO players who want something more from their MMO. But a lion share of people find the game fun. So if you're not too picky. you'll probably like it.

Eh... I found the universe to be kinda boring... Don't get me wrong, there were episodes that were interesting. I suppose part of the problem was that I wasn't able to get the information I wanted it. The ship info. I'm sure you guys know I'm fond of specifications and designs. That's why it never fully grabbed me.
B5 was interesting because it had a lot of fun polotics. War. And of course the mecha. Which I found the perfect site to quench my thirst on.
Gundam is pretty much the same way. Except it has way more stuff when it comes to mecha. Course it seems like bandai/sunrise gave up on trying to add figures to suit. Which is probably why the new series will never have a fondness in my heart as the older UC series.

I like it because I go to it for just the entertainment value. I've always been a fan of the subtle humor at times and almost laid back style. I don't like the newest Star Trek show, "Enterprise", because I feel like they're trying to make it more into a generic Sci-Fi show rather than "Star Trek".

I liked the concept of Enterprise. Earth before the Federation. But I was a little put off that the first warp 5 or whatever ship is an exploration/science ship. Have we forgotten our military heritage? It's like the world become a brady bunch version of itself.. GroupingApparently when you group with people. The mission goes up in difficulty.

The IDEA I like, the way they carried it out I do not.

I think it was fine. Until they over saturated the show with all this time travel crap. I mean like a good portion of the show is about this temporal war. When it should have been just Archer, his initial experiences, and how we lead into the Federation. It ruins it by having someone basically tell him what he's supposed to do. Instead of seeing his experiences that lead him into being the person history supposedly remembers him to be.
More onto the original topic. Apparently they're offering a limited time Life-time subscription, which means you never have to pay monthly again, though I imagine expansions you'll have to buy. With the special features of 2 extra character slots. Which you only get 2 of and most other MMOs usually have more of. Such as wow's 8. But more interestingly is the ability to have "Playable" Borg.
Now, I don't know if that means you can be the Borg and use their ships OR if it's just you can choose Borg as the race for yourself and bridge officers.
