www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2010-07-22/bandai-adds-tales-of-the-abyss-turn-a-gundamBandai Entertainment has confirmed at Comic-Con that Turn-A Gundam has been licensed for a North American release. Thoughts? Personally, out of all the Gundam series available, I always thought Turn-A was the one that had a 0% chance of making it over here. I'm glad this proved me wrong so I can put Turn-A on my DVD shelf, but I really would've rather seen this happen to X first.

I think Turn-A is one of the better Gundam shows. It isn't just another attempt at whoring out the series. There's actually character development and a story that is beyond brain washed zeeks dropping colonies on Earth.
And honestly it almost has a Jules Vern feel to it. But with mobile suits. Which is awesome. And kinda let's it pass off as a scifi and less of a gundam show.

I've actually been going through a lineart book for Turn A that I found, and I'll be putting some of the Earth Militia contraptions into the RP since Zeon Remnants and later the early AEUG/Karaba will have to use a lot of makeshift weapons until they can build up enough 'proper' units and such; notably - the self propelled artillery 'technicals' and other things like armored cars and troop transports disguised as commercial transport vehicles (not to mention these vehicles look like they were just civilian off road vehicles with built-up suspension and armor added to begin with.
- civilian aircraft converted into ground attack airplanes - though I'll be using more modern jet aircraft, not prop driven biplanes
- Naval ships converted from civilian passenger vessels, a practice that was actually commonplace in WW2 and earlier wars, especially for raiders and camoflaged transports/auxiliary ships which is exactly what the Zekes would need (I mean they could even do it with oil tankers and transport subs).
- Outfitting canon support units with cheap, simple "upgrades", like the giant anti-ship scale 'Katyusha' MLRS launcher the Gallop mounted on it in Turn A.
- And the most awesome concept I got from Turn A, the idea of converting old basically obsolete towed cannons into MS-scale handheld weapons that would function as MS-sized equivalents of things like sniper rifles or anti-material/anti-tank rifles by fitting them with simple magazines and bolt-action mechanisms (basically, depending on the caliber, anything between the sniper rifle the GM Sniper II uses up to something similar to the Magella or Gundam [G] hand cannons); extrapolating a little on it, they could just as easily be another type of more rapid-to-operate mechanism (pull-bolt, lever-action, pump-action or revolver) though these are probably more complex other than pull-bolt or revolver (which limits ammo, though is rather likely since many AFVs actually used revolving "autoloaders" prior to true semi-auto autoloaders being developed in the period right after WW2). Extrapolating a little more, since most modern AFV types and pretty much all naval ships use auto-loading cannons, use those converted into MS-scale semi-auto or even 'assault' rifles.
Basically handheld 'autocannons', so they'd fire slower than normal MS machine guns, but would have a heavier punch since they're using full-size artillery shells and not the watered down low-velocity/low-recoil ammo that basically look like (in the Zaku machine gun's case) giant pistol bullets; kind of like the BAR or M14 of MS weapons compared to say, a submachine gun (the Zaku Rifle or 100mm machine gun) or a small-caliber rifle like the M16 (the 90mm GM Rifle). Something that can't shoot as often, but when it hits, your enemy isn't getting back up.
Also: I love the whole post-apoc meets War of the Worlds vibe of the series, so in that regard.... DO WANT.

I've never actually seen or heard too much of anything about Turn-A, so it might be interesting for me to check it out. The concept of it all seems like cool stuff.

Anything that recreates the Tri-Pod Walker battles from War of the Worlds but with Big Zam lookalikes instead of Tri-Pods and with Zakus, Kapools and a Gundam with a nuclear missile silo in its torso thrown in on side of the Earth is definitely worth it.
