Recon is based on this equation.
-Size * 0.1 (Number of Units - Number of Recon Units (5))
-Size is based on the largest unit, decreased by the unit's own recon ability
Ex. Going by Girhen's Greed stats, under this system, the White Base(A Recon) would have lower detection range than a Musai(C? was it?) even though they're both of the same ship size.
Stealth will only affect the unit itself, while recon covers for the entire army.
Size
Small(conventional units) -> 1 Point
Medium(MS) -> 2 Points
Large(Large MS/MA, Destroyer or below grade warships) -> 3 Points
Very Large(Cruisers, Pegasus class fits here too) -> 4 Points
Huge(Dogosse Giar, other giant ship and objects of that size) -> 5 Points
-The side with greater detectability will be discovered first.
-If it's roughly the same then both side will detect each other around the same time.
Stealth
-Stealth can hide the unit with that ability from detection until it attacks, but only for that unit.
Camo and Other Equipment
-Minor things such as camos can give minor bonuses as well, but we'll let the GM run that part
Example
so for example, right now I have 1x Proto Guntank, 10 Type 61, 2 Hovertruck, and 3 Fanfans. The largest unit is the Proto Guntank at Medium, so that's a modifier of 2
there's 16 units in total, so that should give me 2 * (0.1 * 16) = 2 * 1.6 = 3.2
versus the Zeon side, 3 Cui, 3 ZakuIIF, 5 Magella, 1 Samson, largest should be the Zaku IIF, at medium size, that's 12 units
2 * (0.1 * 12) = 2 * 1.2 = 2.4
now that's pretty close, but lets say we ignore that part, the Zeon should have intiative, however I have 2 Hovertrucks which are recon units
for now, lets say Recon units do not provide towards detectability, and instead provides -5 to the number multiplier(in other words, if you have a recon unit for every 5 unit, you can pretty much go invisible against any units with a lower ratio than that)
so with 2 Hovertrucks, the equation will now become 2 * (0.1 * (14 - 10)) = 2 * 0.4 = 0.8, that's lower than the Zeon side so I'll get to attack first because of it
