Kasorymor kept his men in a crescent formation and marched them forward at a quick pace once they received word from the Blades that they were willing to assist. Cavalry or not, they intended to keep up their end of the deal. The purpose of this shape was to give the unit more frontage and secured flanks, so the outriders couldn't slink around them as easy. The men were permitted to fire at will with emphasis being on the horsemen if they showed their face, but otherwise they were to ram into the enemy's actual foot soldiers. The lion's share of their machine guns were left behind them on the hill with some men for support, and they engaged in plunging fire over the heads of their comrades to lay down heat on the foe in an arc.
The rest of them advanced at a swift but cautious pace, using cover and firing from secured positions from which they exchanged rounds with the various elements trying to keep them at bay. The enemy were making themselves scarce and only firing when they presented themselves, Kasorymor guessed they were pulling back. He kept the pressure up, but was hesitant to launch into a full-on assault. Both in case it was a trap, and out of desire to not run into James's artillery. The latter he kept posted on his positions, but at the rate they moved, there wasn't much risk of getting into the potential field of fire.
Cadan's Warband:
8x Kasor Platoons (120 men)
24x Gwithysi Platoons (490 men)
7x Trevluyow Platoons (220 men)
-------------------
The enemy leapfrogged backwards, which is not at all an easy maneuver to accomplish. So to say nothing for their ethics, the Securitate were rather well trained in their foot drill and discipline. The normal troops moved back first, then the elites, then the skirmishers. The Curving Blades inflicted significantly more losses than Kasorymor did, as the unit they had in place to check these men had been wiped out. This let him shoot directly into the side of one of the blocks that was in retreat. The other clan mentioned the Council's forces had a little better time in dealing with, since they still had a few hundred men and all of their cavalry to counter. They moved in similar patterns and tried to stick close to the mountains.
Hameldon followed this suit with the rest of his forces. The downside was that it meant they'd be getting shelled a lot harder, but it also meant that they couldn't be forced from the mountains guarding their southern flank and totally encapsulated. This way, at least, if they got truly desperate, they could flee up there. But his true plan was to hug the rock wall so that they could seek refuge in the ruins of Valhenge, if needed. In essence he'd be retracing his steps...but from the power of the guns hitting them, he wagered his army was more mobile.
They were wounded rather badly on the way out. Some of their gear had to be abandoned, what wasn't destroyed, but that was deemed a necessary evil to keep what they could alive. They had more guns at the fort, soldiers would be harder to replace on short notice. However, the advantage to their mountain guns was that anyone could haul them, so he had his troops pick up a handful left abandoned on the way out of the theater. Buying those from the neighboring clans proved to be a boon after all.
As for Asher, this time, he didn't have much luck. The rear line of the enemy was extremely rigid, being the fulcrum on which this retreat how hinged. The infantry didn't bite in taking his bait, and he was faced with fire no matter where he went, and the enemy continued to advance steadily despite his attempts to hold them back. The enemy general himself could be seen leading up their retreat, so the odds of pulling any fast ones, or playing off lack of communication as they had been, grew slimmer rapidly.
The retreat wasn't as fluid as anyone would have liked, upon getting into the free fire zone several unit commanders 'took liberties' to try and contain their own losses at the expense of their overall unit cohesion. But they eventually managed to get away - with at least a chunk of their initial force intact.
Securitate Final Count:
18x Securitate Heavy Infantry Platoons (180 men)
70x Securitate Infantry Platoons (1400 men)
8x Paemir Horse Driven 37mm Howitzer Gun (8guns)
22x Eastern Men-At-Arms Platoons (660 men)
15x Border Reiver Troops (375 horsemen)
10x Mountain Guns (10 guns)
