Okay, I've been messing around with several RP ideas in the past month or two.
However, I suck at multi-tasking so if I don't just devote it all to a single thing I'm likely to never get any of them done anytime soon (or ever).
Anyway the ideas are:
And... I think that's about it. If I need to explain any of them more I can, but whichever people would rather play is the one I'll steer towards.
However, I suck at multi-tasking so if I don't just devote it all to a single thing I'm likely to never get any of them done anytime soon (or ever).
Anyway the ideas are:
- 1.) Mobile Suit Gundam F91: Rise of the Vanguard. Pretty much exactly what it says, and explained elsewhere.
- 2.) Unnamed Sci-fi warfare RP.
Inspired in part by 40k (with less "grimderp"), 40k's predecessor Laserburn/Imperial Commander, and some other sci-fi RPG settings (Traveller and 2300 AD mainly).
I mentioned it previously here, and I started this idea thinking I could run it as a spin-off of Galactic Civs. It'd still retain some influences from that (namely the "Roman Empire/HRE in space" aspect for the main human faction), but I'm thinking I want to set it in its own universe since certain aspects of GC wouldn't really work with ideas I have for it.
The main point of conflict for the human sphere would be something akin to the Horus Heresy in 40k (but without all the chaos and demons and daddy issues business); basically a large chunk of the human worlds have decided to try to break away from The Empire (TM) for whatever reasons... likely political or doctrinal differences.
Depending on which way people would rather have it go, this would either be
* A.) sort-of a space opera with limited science fantasy aspects ala Traveller, Rogue Trader & certain anime/manga like Outlaw Star + Angel Links (among others)
or
* B.) more hard sci-fi ala 2300 AD, Stargrunt/Full Thrust, and stories like Firefly (again, among others).
Though either way it'd be a "gritty" war RP, as Carlos put it. I'd try balancing out the over-the-top shit of 40k with the more mundane or believable aspects from the others.
Also mecha would likely play a role in it, though unlike Gundam they wouldn't be the enormous, dominant weapons on the battlefield.
Or as versatile. For example space-use designs would be completely separate from terrestrial combat models; the former would be anthro space fighters with variable weapons loadouts meant for combat in and around space colonies or space stations (ref. Jovian Chronicles), while the latter would mainly be walking tanks ala Battletech or just oversized power armor. - 3.) As of yet unnamed fantasy mecha RP. See my Gundam + Dougram post here for what I'm aiming at.
- 4.) Yet another unnamed mecha RP idea, this time kind of a fusion between UC Gundam and Macross; basically while the mecha would function off similar principles to UC Gundam mobile suits, the setting itself is one where humans have spread across a large portion of the galaxy (ala Macross' colonization fleets), and in the process have encountered a number of alien races.
In addition at some point there was a civil war that fractured a portion of the human planets from the central Federation (the rebel not-Zeon faction, though they'd take cues from other UC anti-EFF groups like the CV and Zanscare). - 5.) "High Fantasy" RPG; I use quotations because despite being based on a lot of fantasy tropes, it'd either be closer to Record of Lodoss War's take on Tolkein/D+D type , or if people are open to the idea it'd be Berserk + Warhammer Fantasy; gritty late medieval/early renaissance type human kingdoms (Holy Roman Empire, Kievan Rus, Ottoman Empire, etc equivalents) at war with various races of monstrous creatures (even the Elves/Dwarves would be considered "monsters" by human standards), and eventually demons led by what are essentially demi-gods if SHTF.
And... I think that's about it. If I need to explain any of them more I can, but whichever people would rather play is the one I'll steer towards.
