So I'm thinking of revamping (read "un-Grimderping") some of the various planets and cultures from 40k and since I wanted to do a war-themed sci-fi RP on the side, I thought what better place to start than the IG.
Which due to the nature of 40k is has representatives of the vast majority of imperial planets.
Originally the idea for doing this was for a setting more like Laserburn/Imperial Commander (basically proto-40k, without a lot of the fantasy elements or heavy gothic motifs and more space opera elements instead), or even Traveller.
That said I think they'd lend themselves to the Galactic Civs setting since I see parallels to (namely the whole HRE in Spaaace element). And it would help to generate a large set of worlds with less effort than designing them all from scratch as needed (which can slow things if you're having to develop an entire world while an RP is already ongoing).
...
To start things off I decided to do the main established regiments (and their homeworlds, of course) that have had figures made, with a few exceptions:
So that leaves:
* Notes:
1.) I'm dividing the Cadians' 2nd/3rd Edition incarnation from their 3rd - 6th Ed version, since they pretty much got a massive redesign consisting of everything from visual appearance to background fluff (and because I honestly prefer the old Cadians).
2.) Tanith seems to originally have been planned as a planet for recruiting a whole series of generic light infantry regiments. Just events occurred preventing that.

Ideas and comments welcome.

To start things off I decided to do the main established regiments (and their homeworlds, of course) that have had figures made, with a few exceptions:
- The various Storm Troopers; there's been like three or four depictions so they practically warrant their own, and until I get an idea of what "centralized" imperial troops in Galactic Civs are like, I'm not going to try to tackle these. That said I'm thinking they'd be something like Sardukar from Dune, and would be better trained and equipped than the majority of the troops of system armies.
- The Necromunda Spiders/RT-era "Imperial Army" (looong OOP original metal IG). Originally these were just generic IG but they've been rebranded as Necromunda-specific troops from 3e onwards since the main regiment mentioned during that era were the Necromunda 8th. I have some ideas but saving them for later for numerous reasons.
- * Mordians + Praetorians: the retro-19th century look and tactics are something I'm having trouble with. Its either do a complete redesign of the regiments, or have them stick out.
- * Attilan Rough Riders: again, I can't figure out how to revamp what are basically a fantasy counterpart "barbarian hordes" pastiche of historic steppe nomad cultures, other than to make them "mini-White Scars" that use heavy motorization ala Blitzkrieg to achieve that same kind of overwhelming shock and maneuver warfare... which might actually work x.X
- 13th Penal Legion: since the members come from at least half a dozen worlds, and those regiments are (mostly) detailed elsewhere I figured before I tackle the legion itself I'd try to flesh out those regiments.
- Commissars, Abhumans, Advisors, Admech/Techguard, etc that have minis and maybe even fluff about particular units but (like the Stormies) warrant separation.
So that leaves:
- Cadian Shock Troops*
- Catachan Jungle Fighters
- Valhallan Ice Warriors
- Tallarn Desert Raiders
- Armageddon Steel Legion + Armageddon Ork Hunters
- Death Korps/Death Riders of Krieg
- Elysian Drop Troops
- Tanith Ghosts/Tanith Light Infantry*
- Vostroyan Firstborn
