A few of the terms put off the other duke, as well. The formation of the Archbishopric in particular. Theoretically, if one counted all of the lands of his supplicants, it would probably come out about equal. And provide a neutral power. While a fine plan on paper, it would certainly complicate things in the future, and also might draw support away from the dichotomy they had previously held. Which was...good and bad, Lamarck was certain he could keep allies on board easier than the rogue that was his foe. Religiously, though, he was more tolerant than Byrius and thus didn't see it as an affront to the same level that he did.
Indeed, he sees this treaty as an opportunity to play up his appearances as a man of the people, and moves to exploit it ruthlessly and use it as a weapon. Drafting and putting forward the sections regarding the exclusion of civilian targets, ransom, treatment and taking of POW's, and a way to eventually conclude the hostilities. That way he can further cement that he was working for the betterment of the nation and not just seeking power like Byrius. Even so these articles would work against his less-wealthy counterparts, and also damage their legitimacy if they continued to attack civilians. Win-win on every front, or almost so.
The paper is passed down his vassals for approval, and he adds his signature once all is in agreement.

After all three side reaches an agreement, copies of the treaty are written by hand, and each of the three party gets their own copy completed with three signatures on it. Gransela of course takes their copy and stores it carefully before James stands up and have a handshake with the two Dukes, happy that they are able to reach at least some degree of agreement.
"I hope that by the end of this conflict, we would still have a home to return to. I only ask that everyone here be reasonable, and do not let hatred blind your eyes. Thank you everyone for coming today, and please do not feel hesitate to come to us. No matter if it is to report about war crimes or simply to ask for some advice in life, our doors would be open at all times and we welcome anyone that needs help from us."
The former neutral now Granselian nobles leaves to head back to their holdings, James himself sat in his seat and waited until everyone is gone from the room, before slamming his fist on the table.
"Every, single, one of them...! Why is it so hard to look past their differences and work together!?"
It took a few moments for him to calm down and regather himself before heading out of the room, where some Paladins waited for their leader. Some of them showed concerns about him staying inside, but he brushed them off, claiming that he was fine before the group leaves.
And so, what is later known as the Internal Treaty of Selardia was signed, and ended up being one of the most important treaty created in Selardian history. But for now, no one knows what kind of effect it might have on the coming conflict, be it good, or bad.

Count Gristo was in his mansion though the so called treaty was signed he knew it was only a matter of time.
"My lord, the men are ready to depart.", a man soon stated as he bowed before the Count.
"Good lets show these heretics who messes with us, target the families of the guards, leave none alive. I want to make an example of why heretics should know their place.", Count Gristo said with anger.
"My lord may I be frank with you?", the man soon asked.
Turning to him he soon replies, "Go on."
"I don't think it is a good idea. After all it would be breaking the treaty and even his grace Duke Byrius will be angered.", the man soon replied.
"It matters not, the heretics will feel my wrath, no one will dare challenge us or Duke Byrius!!", Count Gristo soon stated.
Soon there was many men on horse back other barons of other parts of the Duchy of Byrius were already preparing to mount an attack, well other Baron's goals was to attack weapons and other assortment of high priority targets. Count Gristo's men were about to commit known in the History of Selardia as the Gristo Massacre.

Byrius Mansion
Duke Byrius was sipping some whiskey as he looked out of his window in his office, though all seemed calm everything was going exactly to plan now. All was left was to be summoned to the Church for the final part.
Soon a man entered he was wearing a chivalrous clothing with dark red hair and a face that would be considered a lady killer. He soon bowed before Byrius which he turned to the man.
"So... is it done?", Byrius soon asked.
"Yes, all elements who would be against you have been neutralized either through black mail or well the usual.", the man replied.
Duke Byrius smiled as he sat down on his chair, now it was truly time to make his move. The wait is over and now his largest obstacle was Duke Lamarck himself.
"Oh by the way, those weapons that were bought by Duke Lamarck's man? It's likely it will be troublesome in the future.", the man soon reported with Byrius soon replies, "Nothing is ever easy we will deal with it when it arises. For now he will not suspect this not... this soon after all. Sir Tristan I want you and your... 'group' to be ready at a moments notice. I want these three Counts dead by tonight, they are a large problem in the border regions with Lamarck. Its best to slow down their advance which will occur the moment the plan is finished."
Sir Tristan soon smirks, "As you wish its always a pleasure to work with you Duke... no... King Fernand I Byrius."
Soon he left which Duke Byrius smirked. Within an hours time his steward came to his office giving him the letter he has been waiting. The Summons from the Bishops of the Church of Babel.
"So begins the reign of House Byrius-Luna.", Byrius soon stated to himself as he left.

Arawn was wearing normal clothing that of a commoner as he walked through the streets. Of course why was he doing this after what occurred before? Regardless with his father talking with Marshal Rido on the current state of the tensions. Arawn was literally left on his own to figure out what was happening.
"Seriously... what the hell. I get attack by some stupid professional thug and somehow that has managed to screw up everything? If I was some sort of author of a book I would call that ridiculous.", Arawn said to himself as he walked to a fresh fruit stand where a quite a good looking teenage girl was sell apples.
"Get your fresh apples here!! Fresh Apples!!" the brunette shouted which caught Arawn's eye.
"I will take one!", Arawn soon suddenly stated as he walked up to the stand as paid for his apple.
"There you go sir!!", the teenage girl soon stated giggling as she liked how Arawn's innocent face looked.
"Delicious apple by the way... say... have you heard any rumors as of late here?", Arawn soon asked the girl as he looked at the crowds of the market place.
"Well good sir... I may not know it but I know a man named Johnny who is known to attend local pub knows everything going on!", the girl soon replied.
"Ah... thank you very much here some extra.", Arawn soon stated giving nearly triple what he paid for the apple as he walked toward the local pub.
Entering it he noticed the usual pub setting which he has seen dozens of times. People here to get drunk, guards who are off duty, and of course the usual people who eat here.
Looking around he soon walked up to the barkeep with him asking, "Say have you heard of a Johnny here?"

Within his own chambers, Lamarck had been issuing orders all day from the moment he had gotten back in the door. The treaty was a good start but it would only lessen the damage, not stop it. The duke knew he was better positioned to win a long war, so all he had to do was hold and not let Byrius get an edge. Even so, both of his Margraves and several lesser nobles were eager for blood. The man intended to let them have it, disrupt the opponent's muster with a series of quick raids into enemy lands, or so he had envisioned. Show them that he was no mere businessman with no lead in his fist, perhaps make them think twice before launching a full invasion. The one upside to the ordeal with Count Tallack was that the border, heavily militarized before, was now on red alert. Not just from his order, but to save their own skins as well. While glum, the encouragement benefited him. His other plans were going smoothly, Tzympenos's expertise in dealing with the underworld had arranged for trouble to start in Byrius's realm at the worst possible moment, while his own food and ammo supplies were depleted to add to Lamarck's. Tzmpenos had some other interesting plans as well.
As for his own plans, well, he had merchant allies in the 'neutral' courts willing to help lean on Byrius: not providing loans, price gouging, similar. Mercenary contracts had been acquired, some of which could be considered very questionable, militias trained in secret. And then there was that idea regarding the cult, a double-edged sword if there ever was one...
Yes, all he had to do was hold. Everything else simply had to support that. And yet, even though he was poised to deal out his own blows to the renegade duke, his plans with the church would catch him by surprise in a way he hadn't expected. It was to their misfortune the Lamarck side of the field never saw themselves as overly religious.

The barkeeper was cooking some kind of stew on a stove when Arawn had addressed him, he glanced over his shoulder just long enough to get a look at him before resuming his task. The food smelled good, even for a commoner's establishment.
"Lot of Johnnies come here, boy. So many I started just callin' em Johnnies 1 through 5. You want to sort them out, you be my guest." The man said with a hearty guffaw. He was portly, but it made him look jovial rather than just plain fat. He poured some of the stew into a wooden bowl and handed it off to a serving girl behind Arawn, and a look of recognition gleamed in his eye.
"Ah, there's one now," he started, and then raised his voice to call out, "hey Johnny, someone's looking for you. Who'd you piss off this time?"
The knight would find the voice familiar even if he didn't recognize it right away, it sounded like they had just now come through the door. Coincidental timing to be sure. "No one too big, just have the entire city. You know how it is, rough day."
This 'Johnny' would slump into a seat next to Arawn, leaning forward onto the front counter so that he could get a look at whoever was tracking him down. To say the least, he was surprised to see who it was.
"Now here's a man I did not expect to see. You're the talk of the kingdom today, I'm honored a celebrity like you would come looking for me. Despite the danger." A nod of the head clued the barkeep in that he should back off and let them talk in private, and he obliged; going to get some more supplies out of the back room so they could speak. Victor seemed as boisterous as ever, all sharp eyes and wicked smiles. There was no mistaking that he could be one of those dangers, but he seemed more interested in why he was here rather than starting a fight over politics.

Arawn turned to the man before him both surprised and a bit annoyance. Of all the Johnnies it has to be this guy.
"So your name is Johnny as well? I don't plan to be a celebrity and it sort of just... happened. Well who cares your good enough. Come lets see somewhere.", Arawn soon stated meaning lets go to a private part of the pub.
Turning to the barkeep Arawn soon asks,"Hey what is a good spot?"
The man simply pointed to stairs which lead to the second floor of the pub, which Arawn nodded. Going up the steps he noticed a few up here but as soon as they saw "Johnny" they all suddenly left which gave Arawn a interesting impression.
"Either they respect much or they are scared.", Arawn commented on that moving towards a table near a window.
Once things settled down Arawn soon turned to the man then says, "So your wondering why I would want to talk to you. Well how to explain it... better yet here let me show you." Arawn took out his side pouch which was holding what looked to be a dagger of some kind and put it on the table.
"Go take a look.", Arawn soon suggested.

Duke Byrius' carriage soon arrived to the main building that the Church of Babel used in a conclave, normally only those who are summoned may tread here. Duke Byrius of course was invited after all, so he was lead to by a procession of Babellite Hospitalier's who guarded the Conclave of Bishops. Unlike normally he was alone and for good reason, he had to for it was tradition within these confides. Duke Byrius would be lead through the various hallways until he arrived at a single large door. The main conclave meeting place, normally only used in times of religious meetings or summoning a guest to its walls. As the Hospitliers opened the door Duke Byrius himself would be greeted with a large symbol of the three shapes that represented the religion. He soon walked towards the center of the room towards what looked to be a rug which he soon took one knee to the main Elder Bishops sat before him.
"You summoned me, of great eminences.", Byrius stated in a respectful manner.
"Duke Fernand William Richard Byrius-Luna, Rise.", the eldest soon crooked out of his mouth.
Standing up he took a good posture knowing full well what this meeting is about.

"Or? It can be both, you know." Victor reminded Arawn as they took the choicest seats in the entire building, the window spots. Some truths are universal, and this here was one of them.
Victor took the knife when it was offered and held it up to the window to get a good look of it in the light. The other hand tugged at the hairs of his chin while he gave it a thorough examination.
"I'm familiar with this kind of blade. A misericord. They're more popular in your side of the city than ours, it's a knights weapon. Designed to pierce armor and mercy kill wounded knights." Victor recounted, pointing to the guards on the side as he did so. "These and the length don't add up, though. Usually, you wouldn't use this kind of weapon in a straight fight. But these modifications make me think that that was the exact purpose."
Something dawns on him in that moment, his own words connecting the dots. His eyes pan from the blade to Arawn.
"I take it someone tried to kill you? Probably in a moderately enclosed environment, not a house...an alley. A place too close for a full-sized sword, but with enough room for a good killer to dodge, and press reach over the sidearm that a man would typically go for in that kind of scenario. Am I right?" He asked, placing the weapon back on the table.
"Something's different about it, but I can't tell you what. So you tell me, I'll bite."

Arawn nodded at Victor's assessment of course he knew this information already, after all he went to the March of Clarice main smith who made weapons that constantly fought against Medeen blades. Due to that he has to be a master at his work and well that is one of the reasons why he was here.
"Well yes its exactly how it looks to be. This blade was used against me as well the other when I was attacked the other day. No one would think of anything from a glance and you noticed it too.", Arawn soon stated as he took the dagger from Victor.
He soon took the blade as he put it on the floor then with full forced tried to bend it as hard as he could with his foot. He soon managed to give a bent, which he picked up the blade.
"Now your wondering what I did that... now just look.", Arawn soon stated which suddenly the blade went back into perfect form like it was never bended.
"See? No warps, nothing, perfectly preserved like no one bent it. Its almost like if its-", Arawn stated to be interrupted by Victor with the word "Magic."
"Ya, I may not be like my father but magic? that is pulling it out of a horse's ass. I first talked to my smith, he is good at what he knows and practically knows all current metal alloys we use for weaponry not only here but from every nation. You know what he stated? 'What the Blooody Hell dis shit? I never heard me of dis type of blade. Its almost if dis not of dis world!' Sorry its the way he talks. It would of been no problem discovery of a new type of weapon? Sure maybe some new innovative smith figured out to make a new alloy and a new type of blade. The issue? The so called 'Professional Thug' used it. How the hell a professional Thug can even have this kind of weapon?", Arawn soon stated waiting for the reaction of Victor.
Of course this was leading into something different something that doesn't seem related at all into the current political climate. Unknown variables as they say, going into the complete unknown.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
The Elder Bishop soon begins the purpose of the meeting, "Duke Byrius, we have summoned you here today for an very important task. So important it would change the climate the entire Kingdom."
The Second Elder soon spoke, "For many years House Luna has ruled this nation and as both the Head of the State and head of the Church. He who though god in mortal flesh, and divine right to rule the kingdom in his might.
"Due to this nation has fallen into depravity and decadence as more and more of its people stray away from the truth path. They become heretics and grows day by day with no stopping.", the third Elder Bishop soon added.
The First one continued, "First the next vessel was slain by the heathens of Medeen in an assassination on his life."
"Then with the sinful revolt of the Black Wyvern who costed us two vessels at once.", SE Bishop added.
TE Bishop then ends with, "Now the current vessel has died and the divine spirit is without form."
"I see, so your saying due to this the Kingdom is in spiritual danger, yes?". Duke Byrius soon questioned.
"That is correct, as long as this continues this nation is in danger of being destroyed by the Heretics and the foundation of what we striven for shall be naught.", FE Bishop answered.
"I see, now why would it revolve around me?", Duke Byrius asked.

The younger Tzympenos gave him a dirty look at his retort to it being magic. But if not, what else could do that?
"It's real you know, magic. My grandfather, Iulian, was said to be a sorcerer. Iulian the Mad, they used to call him for a time. People stopped once inexplicable accidents began maiming and killing anyone who said it. Either it's true, or luck is in bed with him. Either way, not everything has to have a simple answer."
With that said he listened to the rest about this 'thug' that he was talking about.
"Clearly an assassin in the employ of someone powerful. Good alloys aren't cheap, neither are these kinds of weapons. Someone well connected must be pulling his strings, but I can't imagine who. I know for a fact it didn't originate in our kingdom, spies here would have found out about it for sure...unless he were working for the royal family, perhaps, this smith who made the discovery."
"Your almost dying is what started this conflict. You're hardly important, in the grand scale. So whoever wanted to move the wheels, must be very well informed to know that pressing that button would cause this all. A curious situation."

"Are you sure its not just some fairy tale?", Arawn soon suggested about rumors of past events.
Of course that is how tales begin usually something small becomes larger then what it actually was.
On hearing what Victor was saying made him pause, what else could do it?
"This is starting to become over our own heads, like something much much larger... almost like... no it can't be because its as ridiculous as magic.", Arawn was leaning on.
His thought were changed on the main reason asking Victor's help now.
"Oh right now I remember the reason I came. Victor one thing I know is this entire situation our kingdom is caught up in is too suspect. Regardless, even now could be considered enemies, I rather look at this from another point of view. What could benefit from this? Who has the most benefits to all this senseless fighting making it worse? So many questions but no leads. See I need underground connects.. connects to find this Professional Thug. See you find him we may get a bit of some evidence which could bring to light to this dagger and what the hell is going on here. Because so far it doesn't even seem related to either Duke's in my own personal opinion. What you think?". Arawn soon asked.
___________________________________________________________________________________________
"Why my Duke... to see to our very eyes..", the FE Bishop soon stated.
"To hear with our ears...", the SE Bishop added.
"To Sense with our Spirit...", the TE Bishop as well stated.
Then they sang in unison, "To See if your are the new Chosen Vessel of the Divine Spirit."
Duke Byrius was taken aback, it only meant one thing. It means they were seeing if he was worthy of such to be Head of the Church itself.
"I... I am greatly honored, to be chosen to be tested.", Duke Byrius stated with a deep respectful bow.
Internally he was smirking as smiling with glee, that everything was going as planned.

Who would do this? The prince considered that for a few long moments. Not many people, he had to admit, but he had a couple ideas.
"The religious factions, one of them." Victor eventually said, letting Arawn into what he was thinking. "All of them stand to win. The Church, gets to pick a new head of their religion, one that will be indebted to the elder bishops. The others, get more instability in the kingdom, a loss of moral authority, and thus more converts and power to their own faiths."
It made sense on some level, supposing that one considered all of them to be secretly corrupt. "The Devan, he seemed like a good man. But wicked priests aren't new, unfortunately. It's an idea, the only clear one in my mind." He shrugged, if nothing else it was worth considering.
As for the topic of following up on this lead, he had more dire things to say. "Think. This man, a well connected professional, slipped and left that weapon behind. That is not an accident, he clearly wants you to come to him. Why? I am not sure, but I doubt it's for a good reason. I still wonder what makes you so important. I think you play a bigger role in things than you may suspect. Still. It's better than doing nothing."
"But finding him? That won't be easy, maybe impossible. It's easy to disappear in this city, and no one that I know has heard of this magic metal before. It isn't much to go off of for an investigation. We need more."
Something caught his eye out the window, and he turned to get a better look at it while waiting for the knight to come forward with anything else he had to say. "Huh, do you see that out there?"

Arawn continues, "Well here is the thing... though my father join with Duke Byrius, I myself still have my own misgivings on both Dukes. Yes your going to say Duke Lamarck is good but strange enough I partly think its a mistake to leave the neutral stance. There is more-"
When he turned to see what caught Victor's eye he soon turned to see out only to hear a very very loud scream.
"What the hell..", "Arawn stated as he got up from his seat only to see many people running in a crowd in a single direction then... a thunderous sound of horse hoofs.
"That doesn't sound good.", Arawn soon stated as he soon saw what was going on.
"Who the hell would atta-", Arawn soon stated only to see armored troops with lances, halberds and swords rush in cutting everyone who was even visible.
But what was most notable? The banner proudly shown that of Count Gristo, which meant these were his men.
"That... fucking cunt...", Arawn soon said under his breath as he was about to go out there to demand them to stop.

Duke Byrius stood still before the Elders as the First Elder Bishop shouts, "Let the Voting commence!!"
Soon many parchments were passed around as all the bishops began to write down aye or nay for choosing Duke Byrius as t he head of the church. Duke Byrius stayed calm. For a few minutes the tension was high as he could hear the penmanship of all of them wrote down and folded their parchments. A tray was passed as each of the Bishops put their vote into it until finally the elder's put their own inside. The Stewards all gathered and soon began to read out, "Bishop Talley, Aye; Bishop Femish, Aye..."
Duke Byrius continued to listen as the word Aye continued to rang out.

Victor jumped to his feet when he heard the first scream, the chair he was in being sent to the floor in a chatter of wood upon wood. He basically pressed himself to the glass, rubbernecking this-way-and-that to try and see who was doing it. Even if he had missed the armored warriors, there would be no missing of their standard.
"It's that rat Gristo." He hissed, putting a name to the banner. It would appear that 'Johnny' here was also familiar with the man. No huge surprise, given his 'tact' in diplomatic affairs, or lack thereof.
"Look at this! You either help me stop this, like a good man, or run and save yourself. And if you run, do not come to these lands again." The prince said, a kind of vibrancy and passion coming to his voice that might take his counterpart aback. He stabbed a finger at the window angrily to emphasize his point, as if it were a spear that he was wishing to drive through the lot of them down there. Then without another word he took off down the stairs to make for the door, pushing open his cloak to go for a weapon underneath.
Ideally, Arawn would do the right thing despite being on the other side of the field.

"Running? A Knight of House Clarice never flees.", Arawn replied, though he had no weapon due to being undercover he picked up the dagger.
In the most strangest turn of events he is now wielding the very weapon that tried to kill him beforehand. He promptly rushed down the stairs following Victor towards the door. When passing by he soon shouts to barkeep, "Barkeep if any women or children run in try to get them away from here. It looks like their here not to take prisoners."
He then rushed out the door and what he saw made his stomach turn at the sight. Fighting was happening as men, women, and even children were laid on pools of blood as the street was turn red. By luck or lack theretofore the men of Gristo were not in a massive group but spread across everywhere. To kill as many people as they could, they split their men up as they cut down any one on horse back.
"Damn it... when my father hears of this...", Arawn soon stated knowing full well his father would punish anyone who would do 'THIS'.
Though conflict is apart of life on Luna, to massacre innocents who go about their lives, this was going too far.
Suddenly a man with a lance charged towards him which he saw him, without much recognition the man attempted to stab Arawn. Arawn quickly jumped to the side into the apply cart earlier as the lance completely miss as he took out his dagger.
"Damn it he has better reach...", Arawn soon though as he looked to his side only to recognize.. a decapitated head.
"No...", Arawn soon stated as he recognized the girl from earlier who not much earlier bought an apple and gave her extra to help her. Now she was dead in a pool of blood her head away from her body well the rest of her dress stained in red.
His senses are brought back as the man on horse back charged at him again trying to stab him only for Arawn to use his dagger in a deflection as he grabbed the spear and force the man to fall off his horse. Arawn was quick to not allow the man to recover took the dagger and brought it to the man's head through his throat killing him.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
"Bishop Rently, Aye"
"Bishop Cardess, Aye"
"Aye."
"Aye."
Duke Byrius continued to hear the music in his ears, without realizing something occurring right now was about the change the face of the war.
Screams of Aye continued to sound in these hallways, well screams of innocents die in the droves from Lamarck.

By the time they had got to the bottom of the stairs the barkeep was pulling open a heavy cellar door, likely where he kept the wines and perishable foodstuffs. Now, he was going to use it as a shelter, and the fluidity with which he moved made it apparent that it wasn't the first time he had done so. Already the patrons who hadn't fled began to file in there at his instance, and he gave the pair a 'way ahead of you' in answer to his request for aid in protecting the locals.
Victor beat the baronet out the door by a few seconds, and he seemed to be handling the bloodshed and senseless violence much better. Makes sense, considering his heritage. Rather than let it distract him, the man had already taken stock of the scene and began to bolt towards a mounted figure that had his back turned so that he could do his part in rectifying it. Victor had pulled a mace from his belt while in motion, taken it into both hands, and sent the weapon flying into the back of the horse's leg. It hit with a sickening crunch that made the animal yowl in pain and topple over, its rider mimicking it as he was caught off guard. But only for a second, before Victor carried through on a followup strike that caved in his head through the helmet; the clanging metallic impact mercifully drowned out the noises that would otherwise have resulted. He picked up the child on the ground that the soldier was seconds from hacking into with a saber and shoved him roughly towards the pub.
Around them, chaos gripped the town as the remaining men continued to raid and pillage, attacking everyone in sight. Screams pierced the air and one couldn't move more than 4 yards without stepping in a pool of stinking, coppery blood.
Another rider had caught sight of of the pair by that point and barreled towards them, Tzympenos smoothly pulled a handgun from his belt and fired off a snap shot that took him in the chest. The report of lead-on-steel rang out as the man's armored breastplate was hit and pierced, knocking him backwards off of his horse - which panicked and continued to flee in their direction. Victor grabbed the reigns and hoisted himself onto its back, holstering his pistol to free up the hand needed to do this.
"You alright over there? Take that bastard's horse and spear so we can get going, we're sitting ducks on foot." He called out to Arawn once he had dispatched his own foe. In real time, this all happened at roughly the same moment.

Arawn soon yells, "Back right."
Quckly turning he picked up the lance and soon mounted the horse, looking around the chaos continued as more and more victims were killed. Riding up to Victor Arawn soon says, "What is the usual response form the guard of this area?"
Of course when an attack occurs the local guard would quickly to intercept or move towards the commotion. What was odd was of course the guard have yet to show which itself spoke volumes. Could it be their busy themselves? Was this a full invasion that has been done by more then Count Gristo? In fact so much happening in Arawn's mind on not being home he is not sure what was going through the mind of his father? What is strange is he wouldn't allow such tactics and in fact would follow the treaty to the letter. After all Margrave Clarice was honorable and a warrior but he was not stupid.
