For the trading. Just for simplicity sake. Just have it based on private business trade. So you wouldn't have to do anything. You get X amount of cash for each trade lane I guess. So you connect your cities in a trade network. Something like New York to Boston is $200. Each being a planet. Basically it can scale up. So city to city would be really small. Planet to planet would be bigger. From one faction to another would probably get a bonus.
As for the tactical advantage of more then one moon. I think it's more advantageous to have all of your assets in one place for the sake of being easier to defend. Where as you're spreading your troops out over several moons. An attacker can hit one with overwhelming force. By the time the rest jump in to help, they've decimated a 1/4th of your overall forces.
For the raising troops. Yeah, I was thinking the bigger the city, the bigger the infantry allotment.

If you feel inclined to come up with some specifics for rules/whatnot go ahead, either of you. I'm a bit busy near the end of the school here, since I'll be graduating. This means finals/other junk to deal with.

Realistically a trade system has to deal with all kinds of things. But here is my simple version
+2% to Base Total Worth for each trade route between cities +10% to Base Total Worth for each trade route between Planets +15% to each trade between planets of a different faction
This is so simple that it overlooks the fact that some connections probably can't be made. So if you have Sol-----Centauri-----Prima Technically sol shouldn't connect to prima. It kinda depends on whether we have some kind of map. ;o

That's a thought. Maps can be pretty useful if you ask me even if they don't make a whole heck of a lot of sense for a 3D environment like outer space.

It sure helps to make your gains and standings much more appreciable, though.

Indeed. But what kind of maps works best?

I kinda liked the one you had for the last GG idea that cropped up, a tiled overlay of the galaxy with stars and colors overtop to indicate where people were and how far their influence spread.
Atleast I think that was from you, it sounds about right at any rate. I went to go find it but the GG archive is locked apparently, and the open one only has stuff from the first incarnation of it. Maybe you still have it sequestered in there somewhere?
No use reinventing the wheel.

Urban Sector Req Pop: 2 Accommodates: 2 Pop Req Space: 2 Produces x Production x Revenue
Suburban Sector Req Space: 2 Accommodates: 6 Pop
High Density Suburban Sector Req Space:2 Accommodates: 8 Pop -2 Happiness +2 Crime
Industrial Sector Req Pop: 3 Produces x Production
This is a basic idea of the city building thing. I didn't assign production, because I'm not sure how the numbers will look.
Things like happiness will be based on the number of goods people receive or don't receive. Which in turn will also generate revenue. Employment will obviously also be a factor.
I haven't worked out all of the details. Just thought I'd put it out there and see what people think.
