As they carry out the trial one by one, things starts to appear in the room. First came two statues of a strange beast, with the head of a crocodile, the upper body of a lion, and the lower body of a hippopotamus - Ammit, the soul-eater. Ammit is a demon, the one that is in charge of devouring the heart and soul of the unworthy. In her legends, she is close to invincible, and can freely summon a lake of flames to burn her victims. However there no records of there being multiple ones, so having two statues appearing side by side is already a strange happening.
Next came four caskets, black caskets rather than the usual golden ones. When Tamara finished her turn, the caskets opens up, revealing four mummified corpses. Two of each gender, only distinguishable by their hair and physical traits. And finally, some pitch dark jackal would suddenly appear by each of the mummies, one each, resting at the feet of the mummies.
After everyone has taken their turn, and received a chance to defend themselves... now is the time for the trial to begin. Looks like they do not have the choice to get through this safely after all, a suitable group of punishers would appear according to the overall 'weight' of the tested, and they would have to defeat these creatures to advance. The eyes of the mummies glows with an eerie light as they walk out of their caskets. The jackals by their feet would stand up, stretch themselves a bit, before looking at the group and ready to pounce at their targets. Lastly and worse of all, the two statues turns to life just like the Sphinx had done. The strange beast roars at the group, with a sound similar to those of a lion and a lizard, ready to devour their opponents.
The two Ammit, seems to have chosen Dieter as their targets, and charges right at him. Moving as fast as a lion, these beasts sure are a lot more agile than their appearance, with their large jaws ready to tear a piece or two off the German. He, as the one that are weighted the most against him, are being given the 'best' treatment out of the four.
The mummies went for Gedeon, with the female versions loosen the bandages on their arms, and swings them at him at great speed. While the female ones attacks him with whips, the male ones dashes towards him at a speed unlike most undeads, around the same speed of a regular full sprinting human. An aura of purple seems to surround them, and on closer inspection the warrior might notice that they are actually releasing poisonous gas around them, which might be a big problem if he decides to fight them up close. If the poison gets to him, it might cause him to feel nausea and dizzy, which in this case would likely mean death when he's facing these enemies.
The jackals attacked the girls, charging at the two after splitting into two groups, and barks at them threateningly. Once they see an opening, they would pounce at the two, trying to take them down. They would work in pairs, using their speed to confuse the two, so that they could not focus on attacking just one of them without taking a risk.
Kate, quickly backed off, trying to keep her distance but find the jackals awfully fast. Sensing her fear, one of the two would jump at her, barely missing her when she sidesteps the attack. However the other managed to bite at her sides, which she was able to keep its fangs away from her flesh, but it was able to tear some cloth off her pants. Jackals are fast hunters that tends to operate in pairs, however their main diet are smaller animals such as rats and rabbits, which means their fangs are not suitable for fighting larger targets. As long as you keep them from sinking into your neck, you should be able to get away with just some clothing torn or a few light bites.

The more of them that took the trial, the more that things started to look like they wouldn't be going in the group's favor. By the time the first set of monsters appeared, he was already setting about scribing. He flipped a catch in the bottom of his spear and released a smaller point at the other end in doing so, the Greeks referred to these secondary points as 'sauroters'. It was stubbier and not as useful, but it was handy for his runic arts. Using the actual spearhead for this would dull the weapon amongst other things. As always he started by drawing a circle around himself and filling it in with interlocking geometric shapes. This time a decagon, ten points, as there were ten creatures. Runes were dug into the floor in between these shapes.
Since Kate was with them someone else might actually have a chance to understand what was going on here, supposing she was familiar with any of the old runic languages. Most of the people who worked magic, that they knew about so far, had to call it out verbally. Dieter instead uses runes to do a similar thing. Runic characters could work as phonetic sounds in an alphabet akin to most modern languages, or act as direct representations of ideas, things, and concepts by themselves. Usually they did both, which was why newer alphabets did away with them to simplify things. The runes here were a focus to call upon, shape, and wield the energies of the universe.
He didn't finish off the spell since nothing had actually happened, but he did prick his palm on the butt-spike and hold it at the ready. When the summoned monsters began to move, he finished off the last rune with a flourish. The seal glowed red, as his runes had during the chimera fight when he used some kind of attack spell. It seemed that was the color his numen took when being used offensively. The room dimmed as light almost seemed to drain out of it and move to surround Gerhardt in an aura of brilliant golden luminosity. This aura pulsed and swirled around him like a family of snakes, until he sent it flying with a chopping motion. "Holy ark!"
As he did that, these nimbi broke off, orbiting him at a wider and wider radius until they peeled away from him entirely and launched themselves like missiles towards the entire force arrayed against them. The beams of yellow would impact them with physical force despite being made of something immaterial, and burn like fire; dealing out damage that was both light and, curiously, dark. Pretty high amounts of both types, too. Hopefully, that would weaken them a little and break their stride.
From there, with his weapon already in hand, the soldier was ready to move. Which was good, because the two worst foes were barreling straight at him. He wouldn't have it any other way. He smiled as he readied his weapon in both hands, and once again, put his left foot forward. A nod to whoever sent them his way, be it Anubis or something else entirely. He could respect them for judging him harshly, but as was said, there would be no easy way to bring down this man.
He turned his spear vertically and thrust it forward as the first ammit charged him, letting it ram its open jaws against the haft of his spear. It was too big to fit in its maw, and that was good, because he didn't intend to, but this would surely throw it off. He swung all his weight into a push that would shove its face aside, and the he tore into its face with the second spike on his weapon. It wouldn't be a deep wound, but it would hurt. This was the other reason he had the sauroter, it was a useful 'off-hand' tool.
The second one, he tried to evade by throwing himself forward and to the side, getting between the pair. It wasn't a perfect solution, as it swings its head and tears at him with its teeth on the way by. Fresh blood spatters the ground, but not as bad as it could be. Ever the prepared one, he had armor on under that tunic. He rolled to his feet and swung around, jabbing the actual tip of the spear into the back leg of the second ammit. It had a lot of mobility, he sought to cut that. The reason he also moved forward was to keep from being cornered, now he had the whole room to maneuver around - excepting the other people fighting. He began to back up towards the stairs slowly, keeping his weapon parallel to the ground.

Soon before Gedeon he soon noticed the things appearing as the two statue's that put him on edge as he saw them. Then suddenly a few caskets appear which he soon turned to see Tamara on the floor next to Kate. It was looking like they were not going to pass the trial. Then soon what looked to be Mummies appearing and then Gedeon noticed Jackel finally appearing.
"Great... looks like we got trouble..", Gedeon soon comments and suddenly all of them began to come alive before their eyes.
Suddenly the statue's came alive which soon Gedeon noticed charged toward Richter, with Tamara out of commission for now he had his plate completely full. He soon would notice the four Mummies began to come toward him well the Jackels towards the girls. He was now in a very bad situation as they were all being targeted by different things and being split apart. They changed came towards him his noticed the female mummies used a whip like to him as the males came towards him. On closer inspection he saw their mouth and how a gas like look was coming from them. A Familiar look he now would not be able to get close or be poisoned. His choices were limited as his own problems were add Dieter was facing a big problem and Tamara was temporarily out. Gedeon was trying to think a way out of this which suddenly got an idea. If gas could it even be flamable? Their mummies and made out of thick like cloth which could protect against fire but might give him an edge. It was time to one spell he has been holding back
Putting his spear to his side he put out one hand and begun a chant.
'Oh Prisoner of the flames cover thy hand, to give chains that boil the heat into thy enemies. Burn, burn, burn by the flames of the great one!! Flaming Chain!!', Gedeon soon finished his chant as flames came from the hand that was being tied by the female mummies. Using that connection fire came through to attempt to burn himself free. Once done suddenly chains of magical nature could be seen appearing soon which were made of fire.
He used it his spell in attempt to burn that they tried to tie in with and use it to push the female mummy toward a male and see what occurs. Of course it could completely fail he had no choice. He needed to keep his distance but him not a range combat but a close range would only give it extremely risky. With that done he had tried to keep a distance as he put his spear up to keep them at by.
During this Tamara's eyes were close as the Jackels were closing in on her, she was still out of it but for how long? Hopefully not, due to the Jackels were barring down on her and Kate at the same time. It would be up to Kate for now to think of something as Tamara slowly tries to wake back up.

(Well, since you didn't reply, so I did the dice roll and you wouldn't like the result)
-
Using spells from a different culture helps in that your opponent won't be able to react as well towards it. Dieter's spells managed to stun the Ammits long enough for him to prepare for his next set of actions, it didn't do too much damage yet but it will build up and eventually be enough to take down the beasts. As they try to dig their teeth into their opponent's flesh, the spear managed to catch one right by its jaws. When the beast tries to crush the weapon, it finds itself unable to do so, at least not without great efforts, and the sharp spikes sure didn't help it on that matter. The Ammit roars in pain and in anger as it takes the hits, wincing a bit at the damage it had taken, not something it was expecting.
The other Ammit was a bit more lucky and could get a light hit in, but suffered injuries from the man's counterattack. With one legged injured it would be slower than it originally was, but still able to fight at close to full capacity. There is however one problem, they are large, and it is hard to attack at the same time with their size. So they would be taking turns in attacking, a different tactic from the other monsters here, but still tough to deal with.
Seeing that their jaws aren't going to get them much returns, they switch to using their sharp claws instead. Their claws causing the air to ring as they slashes at Dieter with fearsome speed and power, ready to turn him into bite size chunks. One would attack after another, not giving him much chance to rest and recover.
-
Mean while, the Mummies were fighting their opponent with a bit more success. Although Gedeon managed to set one of them on fire, there's still three others, and the fire itself did not finish his opponent. It is true that mummies are weak against fire, most of them are made with dried bandages that was soaked in flammable liquid, but that doesn't mean fire will kill in seconds. Just like any burning objects, it takes time before the fire reaps the lives of the being, and the mummy sure won't stop attacking before that happens.
His opponent that he had tried to set on fire had just became more of a problem, the regular bandage whips have now become fiery weapons, ready to drag the young warrior into his doom. There is also something he had forgot about undead creatures, their flesh might be weak against fire, but it doesn't necessary mean it would stop their movements. Undeads are undeads, they don't die, they will continue to fight unless their source of power are removed or is completely disabled. The fire, could not do either, and would only be able to reduce their fighting abilities. Not only that, the fire itself would become a hazard to everyone nearby, which is why fire is not always used in military operations even in the era of cold weapons.
So as Gedeon tries to pull the burning mummy into another, it simply got both of them burning... and the male ones are charging right at him. Now not only are they poisonous, they now could set him on fire, and even explode if bad comes to worse. Gedeon haven't been moving, so they're close enough to attack him now, and they're eager to have a few bites out of him. He might try to resist, but these mummies proves to be more powerful than the ghouls they have met on their last trip. The power difference makes perfect sense, one was summoned by a lich, but these ones are summoned by a God so there's a big different here.
-
"Ms. Ashborne!"
The two girls have a very, very big problem on their hands... and that is Tamara is unconscious from the trial, which is strange considering even Dieter stayed perfectly fine if a bit shaken. The jackals might not commonly attack larger targets, but that doesn't mean they lack the ability to do so, and Tamara being helpless on the ground does not help her at all. Adding to that, as much as Kate would have wanted to help, she's got her own pair of jackals to deal with.
The jackals are not exceptionally strong, but they are quick and well coordinated. When Kate tries to aim at them with her rifle, she finds their speed a problem, making it very difficult to get a clean shot in. But she's got no choice as she see the other two jackals, ready to go for the younger, unconscious girl.
Kate's has some just in her, just like most people when they are forced to choose, and she could not bare herself to just let the girl die. She was able to fire and hit one of the jackals as they try to attack Tamara, seriously wounding it, but not enough to finish it off as it stays injured on the ground. However the distraction was all they needed as one of them pounces at the secretary, knocking her to the ground, along with the rifle in her hands. With a rush of adrenaline the young woman was able to kick the attacking beast away before it could do anything, but as she turns and crawls towards the dropped rifle, the other canine follows its ally's example to attack.
The second jackal managed to lunge at her back, and bites her right on the left shoulder, causing her to yell in pain. The first one also recovered and attacked again, but her pants managed to save her from any serious injures. That said, with the condition of the cloth, it's not going to work anymore... not that there's much of the pants left. Kate tries to knock the one on her back aside but the grip of its jaws was quite strong, and took a bit of time and chunks of flesh to force it back. Luckily for her, the bite didn't reach any bones, so she is still able to use her arms. However it was still a quite deep wound, and a decent amount of blood coats her side.
She's still able to fight, but the level of injuries is not making her feel well at all. Being quite close to death and the problem of not having much(if at all) combat experience would have caused her to just run, if the exit haven't been blocked since the creatures had appeared.
-
Tamara wouldn't be doing well at all, likely the worse out of everyone here in the room. Being unconscious, even with Kate's attempt to save her, the other jackal would be able to bite at her undefended side. She's not wearing any protective clothing either, choosing to wear something for its appearance sure did not help her situation. The jackal's fangs could cut through her flesh, certainly a painful experience to have a piece of you ripped out by an animal. In fact, in ancient times there are culture that uses such method as execution, showing how horrible it must have been for the punished.
After a few moments she would have been left with some quite serious bites, if that's not enough to wake her up to respond to the beast, it wouldn't take much long before she'll get to rest - forever.

Dieter pressed on despite the pain in his side, ignoring the blood making his clothes sticky. There was little time for pause, the beasts whipped around and were right back on him within seconds. There was a small mercy in that they were no longer using their teeth, those jaws could probably break a tank. While easier to swing, the claws were also easier to avoid and parry. Which he did. The haft of that spear must have been made of some very strong materials, because it didn't break as he blocked their claws with it. Of course he was also smart in how he parried, whenever possible he'd turn the spear so the haft slid between their 'fingers' rather than getting hit by the actual talons. In addition to wearing him out less, it'd also be somewhat painful for the creatures - provided they felt pain.
When he couldn't parry, he dodged; though their speed was clearly causing problems for him. Every so often they'd rip at his clothes, armor, and when unlucky, skin. The tips of their claws glistened with red, and some very colorful language filled the air of the chamber. Another advantage he had was reach, and he used the tip of the holy lance to keep their attacks at a distance. More time to dodge, more time to counterattack.
Of which, he launched several. The spear's gilded point flashed several times in retaliation for their swipes, aimed at jabbing into their shoulders and destroying muscle and bone. Anything to unbalance them and weaken their offense. In a protracted fight he could surely win, because he had a few tricks up his sleeve. Primarily, he launched his counter strikes immediately after a parry, to make sure that limb would be out of the picture. It was becoming apparent now that Gerhardt was faster than your average man in a pinch supposing anyone actually had the time to watch; but compared to something that was part lion, that likely didn't go for very much. These monsters didn't seem to wield any magic for the lance to destroy, but even barring that, it was a powerful weapon being wielded by a strong and steady hand. Unpleasant to get hit by. For all of his offensive moves this turn, he used the real head of the weapon and not the smaller back-end spike.
His allies didn't look to be fairing so well at the moment, but there were little he could do. Between both of these kitbashed monsters from hell, his hands were full. Taking on more of a burden would only get him torn to pieces. Out of the corner of his eye he could see that Gedeon and his ward were in trouble. Unfortunately cohesion in the group had broken down fast. He didn't even realize Tamara had passed out until the battle began. This was a huge loss considering her magics, and now not only were they down a member; they'd have to further divide manpower to rescue her. What a tricky situation. A smart thing to do would have been to pull back into the hall and funnel the foes into that narrow pass, but they had gotten broken up in the initial attack. They couldn't risk time leaving openings to kill the animals away from the girls, and even if they did, one man could never hold off 4 mummies and two ammits while the other picked Tamara up. And worse, then what would they do supposing they did manage to get her loft? Both of them were spearmen, a two handed weapon.
Licking his lips and tasting blood, the spear bearer realized that this might just become and every-man-for-himself operation. But if that happened, likely none of them could get out of here. Despite the situation, he'd have to try and turn it around. He called out to Gedeon.
"Gedeon! We must have a fighting retreat to better ground! We'll be overwhelmed piecemeal if we remain like this." He said first, and in between sidestepping a pair of slashes, gestured to the hall. What the hell would they do about Tamara? He wasn't sure. Maybe the bites would wake her up. That was his best case scenario. Worst case...you can't always save everyone. "We need a spell to cover our movements, something to help the girls get free!"
Ideally he had something for this, Tamara would for sure if she woke up. As well, his wisp could come in handy here if he thought to use it. What they needed to do was get rid of the jackals first, then the girls could get behind them and open fire on the mummies and ammits. The scavengers were clearly the weakest links. Holy Ark was his best AoE, and he threw that to little effect. Another wouldn't be the answer, so it fell on those two to tap into their arcane tricks. For better or worse, he had to have faith in his allies. For the second time today, he thought to himself that 'it's in god's hands now' as he chose not to keep going for the stairs, and instead began to move back towards the hallway they entered through. While the stairs would have made a good solo fighting spot, it'd leave the rest to rot. Conversely, if the rest of them couldn't get to the hallway now that he began to peel back to it, they'd still be able to press numbers on him. Still, it was the best choice they had as a unit. He moved as fast as he could while staying on the defensive, trading counterattacks to try and keep the guardians on their toes and punish them for any openings.
By and large this turn he was trying to curb their combat effectiveness.
As for Gedeon, Dieter trusted he could stall the mummies for long enough to free up the women. Setting them on fire wasn't exactly a good idea, but the man had taken down that guard with ruthless efficiency. Maybe the same spells could work here, or perhaps some chain lightning to hit all of them? It was his choice.

Gedeon cursed loudly as his entire idea backfired, though they were undead and normally fire would work it seemed they were much resilient then he expected.
"Crap!! This is not working!!", Gedeon soon cursed as he saw the jackals heading toward the girls specifically Tamara.
Now they were in very much major trouble, with Tamara down and his idea turning the mummies into flames mummies he now wondered what to do next. They were being surrounded and divided, unable to back each other up. The placement was bad and it was bringing back his memories during the judgement which he knew the cause of his entire squadron dying. He wouldn't let it happen here again or especially now he had to protect Tamara even more. He had no choice, now he was wounded anymore fighting here would only leave them a slow death. Suddenly he felt pain as the mummies bit into him, Gedeon was in a far worse position now as their death was bad which now made his spear harder to use.
"Seriously?!! This is why I hate fucking undead!!", Gedeon shouts as he struggles with all his strength.
He soon put out his hand and began to chant even as they were biting hard.
'Be the body of the power within, that power that a begun runs with communication. By all turn thy body into a body of pure power!! Lightning Field!!', Gedeon chanted as he soon his body began to electrify as it would chain out of his body and into the Mummies themselves.
Even if undead, even if they were running on mana, they still required some form of communication within the bodies to move the parts. This alone would stun them hard enough to loosen their jaws on him as well mum his own body from pain as he used his spear to push forward them off of them. It was a moment but a moment long enough to fall back.
"Agreed!! To the hall way now!!', Gedeon soon shouts as he turns out even as blood was creeping on his left arm and shoulder.
He moved it and due to the temporary numbness, he didn't know as much time before the poison would affect him.
Gedeon saw Tamara as blood was gushing out from her and he only soon shouts, "Tamara!!"
Pissed and angry he moved as quickly as he could then soon remembered what he had. He soon took out the scrolls James got him as he charge toward Tamara even if the mummies hot on his heels. He soon saw what was occurring when he soon hears a scream he thought he never want to hear again. He had to move so he soon opened the scrolls activating the wisp and soon directs it toward the lone Jackal attacking Tamara. He would soon take out his pistol after the scroll's attack is done and soon took aim at single Jackel to let Tamara go, as soon as she would move out of the way would unload his pistol towards it.
______________________________________________________________________
Tamara was unconscious the entire time earlier as her eyes were slowly waking as she was on the floor. Kate's attempt to save her as she didn't know what was occurring. As Her eyes were slowly opening suddenly she would feel an intense pain as a Jackal would bite into her side instantly. Her eyes opened suddenly and she screamed, so hard as it came out of nowhere. Now she is conscious she tried to turn but the pain and the biting on her back didn't help.
"What the... Hell?!", Tamara soon screeched now began to trouble to get the the Jackal off of her.
She was struggling and in pain the blood could be seen coming out as she was now completely hopeless. She was panicking and trying to move but the jaw would only crush her harder, as she struggled more. It was until she soon hears Gedeon Gedeon's shout then suddenly she looked to see the wisp coming towards the Jackal. Before he could hit her she turned best she could to use the Jackal itself as a shield as well to get it off her as she kicked it hard. The jaws came off though in pain Tamara moved as quickly as she could forward soon after as Gedeon's gun shots could be heard attacking the Jackal. Now looking what was going on she soon saw what was occurring in front of her and saw Kate was in large trouble. Suddenly Gedeon came by and got her up quickly seeing what she didn't expect worry in his eyes which caught her off guard. Now noticing the situation and noticing Dieter falling back to the narrow passage now understood. Even in pain she soon tried her best and began to chant.
'By the mother and the land In beseech thy power!! Give me strength oh Terra Mater to protect thy children from thy enemies!! Now come Earth Shield!!'
Suddenly near Kate the ground would move as rocks would come in front of the Jackals, the ground then would move forward and continuously make more if a Jackal tried to move the point to push the enemy back to allow Kate to fall back. As well the same ground would suddenly appear from Dieter to shield him as she continued to hold her hands up and moved them as need as she moved with Gedeon backwards in retreat. it was now up to the rest to follow suit and retreat. During this one could notice Tamara was sweating and blood coming out of her nose as she was pushing herself hard. Gedeon would Hold her put and if an enemy came near them he would fire his pistol to keep them at bay.
"Move! Move!", Gedeon soon shouts.
This works they hoped it would help them if only to give them enough time to regroup and plan a counterattack.

Dieter was able to deflect the attacks coming at him, a fairly impressive work considering they're close to 5-8 times his weight range. It hurts them a bit when their claws make impact with the halt, as it brings the force of their own attack back to themselves, but it wasn't enough to cause damage yet. The counterattacks worked quite well, with one of them suffering a moderate amount of damage, enough to disable the injured arm just like Dieter had hoped. However the Ammit were not just mindless beasts either, the injured one tightens its muscles, slowing down the speed that the Germany can retrieve his weapon, and bring it's other claw down at him with full speed.
The other Ammit waited for the human to respond to the attacks from its comrade, before lunging at him from the side, claws ready for a wide side-way slash to his torso in an attempt for some serious damage.
-
Finally Gedeon made a great choice, the electricity proved to be decently effective as it slow and stuns the mummies around him, giving him enough time to back off before further damage could be done. The mummies themselves received some burns from the attacks, and the burning ones are starting to weaken by the flames, it won't be long before the two flaming mummies perish from the heat and burns.
However they are not going to just let him get away that easily, with the female mummy sending another bandage whip towards him while he is trying to attack the jackal, and the male ones trying to close their distance again for another chance to attack. Luckily the two burning ones are moving slower due to the damages they have suffered, so Gedeon won't have as much problem as before.
-
Kate had little idea about the sudden magic, but with a quick look she had noticed Tamara seems to have woken up from her earlier unconscious state. It's a good sign, and with Gedeon joining the fight against the jackals, Kate was able to react better than before. Grabbing the rifle that's on the side, she tries to help Tamara by taking her other arm so the three can fall back faster. The rifle however takes two hands for her to use, so she won't be able to deal with the jackals while they do this. Blood from her shoulder is also somewhat dripping onto Tamara's uninjured side, causing her to look like she's covered in blood.
"Thank you Ms. Ashborne, Mr. Ashborne, I wouldn't be able to handle all of them by myself..."
Though they had a poor start with one of them unconscious, they managed to work together and at least try to get themselves into a better position. It won't help if anyone of them die, as it would just make the attacks on them even harder to deal with. However all four of them have some degree of injuries, with Tamara being in the most serious condition, so they're not off the hook yet.
Luckily Gedeon's shots managed to hit one of the jackals by the leg, greatly reducing its movements. But the bullets of a pistol is not enough to take the fierce beast out of the right, and the one that was shot by Kate earlier seems to be crawling towards them too. The other two healthy(?) ones splits up and attack the three from different directions to confuse Gedeon, that and working with the mummies so they can try to bite at the legs of the humans to slow them down. However their plan was delayed by the wisp, leaving only one of the jackal coming towards them.

So far so good. Block an attack, take a couple of steps back. It was starting to look like this might just work out afterall. With what looks he could spare, it appeared that Gedeon was getting his act into high gear and bailing out their beleaguered teammates. Which was excellent. The problem was that sneaking a glance for that split second was all that it took to open him up to the one-two attack launched by the small deities. The slow and strong attack, he evaded, guessing what it was up to. So rather than try to match strength with it, and likely get pummeled to the floor in the process, he evaded snappily.
The one from his friend, that one he didn't get away from since it wisely attacked him in the middle of his evasive maneuvers. Seeing it coming at the last minute allowed him to turn on a heel and thrust his spine backwards. What this did was let the talons gash across his chest and side rather than disembowel him, and keep them from digging in as far as they otherwise could have. It was a devil's deal, but it was better than nothing. A cold chill ran down his back that did little to counteract the white-hot pain of lion claws ripping his skin. The armor beneath only cushioned the strike somewhat, and now it was almost completely ruined. In normal circumstances he'd have done another one of his little tumbles here, but the pain in his side absolutely shot that down. The sick feeling of fear began to well in his stomach, only making the throbbing pain and coldness of blood more poignant in the mind...
It was a blessing that Tamara chose this moment to wake up and cast a spell to defend them, some kind of earthen wall rising from the floor. The girl certainly had some impressive zaubers at her command...but from past experience, Dieter knew that she couldn't keep that level of power up for long. He was fast to use the cover of stone to pull back towards the hall while it would foil the ammits. Along the way he risked a glance at his side, it looked pretty bad. It'd definitely take bandaging...or something a little different.
Time to use an old trick.
As he did against the metum beast, the explorer tried to focus his mind through the pain and fatigue wracking his system. Similar to his buff spell, he was reaching into himself again and calling on the ephemeral energies infusing his body on an incorporeal level. It answered his summons in a outpouring from the chakra points along his body underpinning the links between the three forms of being. As always, this formless power was commanded and transferred down his arm. Pinkish volts of power snapped between the fingers of his left hand, and those with him at the Tower would recognize the spell. He crouched to inscribed that same odd sigil into the stone floor while Tamara's spell was ending off, the one that looked like a pair of jagged v's.
As was said earlier, these runes essentially took the place of verbal components in spells. Despite that, the act of casting itself worked a little differently. The stronger the medium they were placed upon, and how they were placed, greatly affected the spell's power. Drawing them in the air with odic force was much less powerful than drawing them on paper, and that less so than carving them into metal or stone. Similarly, adding a piece of the caster would greatly magnify the effect. Blood was the most powerful, and common, component to do this with. In essence, Dieter's magic was like a science; there were steps to follow in any procedure to be carried out, but there were variables one could swap or opt in/out of if needed. If strictly pressed, for instance, pure Will could cast a spell the same way that everyone else did it - but it would lose potency to do so. The Knights and their spells drew from a common pool of imagination that had ingrained these theories into the collective unconsciousness of the marcosm over the millennia, what they did when they casted was tap into these byroads of magic that had already been paved. A deviation in the formula could be equated, thusly, to taking a bumpy shortcut on your way to a destination. Their spells are much more reliable and powerful as a result of their shared background, but also significantly more rigid in application. It also meant that they worked before the crossing had started to really begin, and it furthermore allowed weaker minds and laymen to cast with some proficiency once they had learned the tricks of the trade. That was how his underlings were able to seal their room on the cruise ship.
Having time to put it the runes stone like this, would increase electrical spell's potency a little bit.
When her stone walls finally ended, the German leveled his hand at whatever beast was in front. Order didn't matter. "Vril-blitz!" He cried, and with a thought, let the dam holding back the power open. Ghostly lightning snaked through the air to smack into one creature, and then another, and another, until all of them had been hit. Anyone with particular magic sensitivity here would notice something interesting: there was an exchange going on, it wasn't a one way transaction. Not only did this ghost-lightning burn their flesh, it also stole a chunk of their vitality and brought it back. Wounds on his body knitted closed before their eyes. The life drain wouldn't work on the undead, as it hadn't the chimera, but it'd still hurt them. Anything living might also be left momentarily paralyzed if it wasn't lucky.
One might consider it a dark spell, considering the effect. Ultimately, however, it was wielders who decided whether their tools wrought good or evil.
With that done he grasped his spear again and kept it ready for another round of combat, momentarily refreshed. Hopefully, that second spell of his had further stacked some good damage onto the opponents, and allowed the other three some reprieve from the ankle-biting animals harassing them. He didn't have the power for many more zaubers in him unless he could find a numen-rich area to leech off of.

Gedeon and along with Kate helped Tamara still move even with her injured leg, he was worried about both girls as he notice both their wounds. With that much blood loss it was only a matter of time before both would collapse from it. They had to hurry and end these enemies before either women pass out and not to mention himself as well. Now looking what was happening before them the hall way itself would give them a better vantage point to handle the enemies now. Moving Tamara off to the side he soon helps her down on the ground as she continues to breath heavily. Gedeon checked up on her quickly as he could be knows the enemy are in bound into their position.
"Tamara you there?", Gedeon soon asked the teen who's raise her head as she was looking paler then usual.
"What you think..", Tamara blurted out which told Gedeon she was fine at least he thought so.
Knowing the time was short he soon turned to Kate and tells her, "Kate help her with her wounds then help yourself afterwards. The both of you are the most injured right now."
Getting back up he reloaded his pistol and grabbed his spear which Tamara soon asks, "Where you going? Aren't you just ans injured as the rest of us?"
Gedeon paused for a second then turns his head back with a smirk and soon replies, "Ya but unlike you I am a fully fledged knight, unlike you who is still learning I am experienced in this and faced worse odds before. Rest up and stop bleeding one me, my job is to keep you alive and safe. So don't go on being reckless and getting yourself killed please."
Gedeon turned back and join up with Dieter as both now on the hall it was now much easier to deal what they had to. They had numbers now reduced due to the hall way Gedeon soon prepares himself as he closes his eye to begin his chant for stone skin. Rocks from the earth and stand began to form around his body creating a full fledged Armor of rock as he continue to chant until finish he then opened his eyes.
"I been distracted for too long, come on Gedeon get your head into this and deal with the enemy before us!!", Gedeon told himself as he now was calm like he was before if Dieter notice.
His eyes were cold and calculating even as his body was bleeding the time to worry of that was not now. The time now was to deal with the enemy before them and a Mage Knight does not flee when their comrades are in real danger. He had to time this correctly as he had to help Dieter in this the Jackals were mostly slowed down and the one coming quickly towards them would be the first to arrive. The other two things would take longest he had to be careful on what he does.
Putting up his spear he soon began to chant for something else, something more precise and far more cutting power.
'My Blade is my weapon my weapon is my power! By the skies of the wind I call upon you!! Wind Come to my Weapon and cut that which is before me!!', Gedeon soon shouted as the spear glowed a second but looked like nothing changed.
Gedeon moved forward as suddenly wind around him moved with him making him move a little faster then normal. His Spear soon would come to the Jackal closest and he soon does a downward Slash at it. If anyone would now notice wind suddenly pushed forward as wind was added toward the enemy to push them back.
'Wind Slash!!', Gedeon shouted as the wind increased in strength to push them back even faster.
Of course Gedeon using a non normal element he normally uses, which could raise a few questions but one thing for sure. The attack was not uncommon, after all there is a basics of magic that all Mage Knights must learn, Stoneskin is one, Wind Slash was another. As the attack occurred Gedeon was ready to strike again if he needed too he just need to see his results before him.

The Ammit that got a successful hit, roars in pride for landing a strike on its prey, and further renew their determination for victory. However the stone wall blocked off their chance to continue to attack, so they uses their great strength to break through the barrier... only to get hit by Dieter's lightnings. The bolts drained much of their vitality, causing the injured one to limp a bit, and the previously unharmed one to look noticeably weaker than before. It won't be long before the weaker one is taken out, but the other one is still going to be a problem for the explorers.
It was a power spell, one that is enough to shine some rays of hope on the previously doomed team, and enough to buy them time to regroup without any problems from the Ammits. They do however quickly recovers and begins to chase after them, their size limits them to entering the hall one by one, but still a decent threat. Although the lightning had paralyze them slightly, they have recovered in the time they took to advance towards the group, so it won't be having much affect on their combat abilities.
Being in a narrow place would limit their opportunity to strike, however they decide to use the most effective method in this situation... they charged. Using their superior weight, strength, and speed to add on to the force, they plow towards the group like a raging bull, only a bull would be much easier to deal with. Now we have something close to 2000kg charging at them, with the speed of a lion, and they don't have much place to dodge inside this hall either. The only part of the news here that sounds good is that only one of them is charging, the other can't do the same due to the size of the hall.
-
The jackal that Gedeon had prepare to fight was trying to pounce at him, but was caught right by the slash from his spear. The attack managed to cut through its body, and had hit some vital organs, causing a large amount of blood to spray everywhere towards the warrior before it drops dead on the ground. But following the first jackal are the one that is no longer distracted by the wisp, and jumps towards his side to bite a chunk off his side. The one that was shot by Gedeon soon followed from another direction, but at a slower speed, while the last one finally took its last breath and remains lifeless on the ground.
The mummies, could not help much with the Ammits in the hall, and not being small enough to squeeze through the larger creatures. Instead the female one tries to disrupt the two explorers using their bandage whips, not trying to do noticeable damage, but trying to distract them enough for the Ammits to carry out a more fatal strike. The burning ones finally reach the end of their line, and crumbles as the fire chars most of their body structure. However out of the mummies, the biggest problem would be the one from the male one that is still standing. It simply stood there and let the gas inside it flow into the hall, it might not be a sealed pathway, but it's not exactly ventilated either, so the gas would still have a decent affect in weakening the group.
-
Kate nods to Gedeon's request, and had Tamara sit down by the walls, so that she could examine her injuries. It's looking pretty bad, the bites from the hounds while Tamara was asleep had almost reached her organs, with quite a bit of her muscles being ripped apart. It's already amazing that she did not felt it as bad as it should have been, but this will certainly become fatal if untreated. Kate knows how to do first aid, quite experienced in it too thanks to her journeys with James, but this is beyond the level of that. She could help improve her condition by patching up the injuries, at least long enough to keep her alive so they can find help. There is, one problem... they lack materials for that.
"Ms. Ashborne, take off your shirt... No I don't mean it like that, but I'm trying to help here, and I need some cloth to work with."
Kate managed to get Tamara to do as she asked, and the older woman tears it apart into workable bandages, which she tries to wrap around Tamara's torso to help control the injuries. But it wasn't enough, the wound was quite deep and there's not enough cloth. Seeing that, Kate was forced to do the same for her own half damaged shirt, and only then did the bleeding became less of a problem. At least now it's not going to spray everywhere like a fountain, so she won't be dying just yet. Though now they have two young women in their undergarment standing behind the men, a great sight if they weren't in a life threatening situation.
Her own injuries were a lot easier to deal with, it was a lighter wound in comparison, so she was able to use the remaining cloth to bandage up her own wound. They would be ready to rejoin the battle in a moment, though not nearly as well as they would have been if they are not injured.

Fresh energy ran through Dieter's nerves like voltage down a powerline, revitalizing his battered body along with healing his wounds. It felt good, really good. Better with the spice of adrenaline on top. Sometimes he enjoyed fights, he was a practiced fencer after all. This battle in particular? Not so much fun, but it wasn't hard to see how adrenaline junkies got into their line of work. For the German, he'd rather never repeat this scene once its over, if all can be helped. But to do that, they'd have to get out of it first. Herein lied the rub.
He watched the monsters tear down the magic stone barriers with a grimace, these things were strong enough to defy belief. Or perhaps inspire it one would be better suited to say, being they were facing deific manifestations. It made him question if they were truly gods, or at least avatars or some other embodiment. Whatever the case, terrifying was an adjective that fit them perfectly. The short breather they got was extremely welcome, and he had to admit this: For all of her childishness, Tamara was an adept mage. Supposing her foolishness didn't get her killed, she'd make a fine wizard, Gerhardt suspected.
"Ready yourselves, they'll be on us soon!" He commanded as the crocodile heads of the chimeras began to break through the stone. The rest of them came seconds after, and that was followed by the mummies and then the jackals that had yet to be killed.
The gas was the first obstacle he sought to manage. Regarding that element, he could do little without specialized equipment, which he was resolving to bring from now on after both adventures pitted him against poisons. The best he could do for the moment was rip a shred of bloodied cloth from his war-savaged tunic and wrap it around his face. Moist clothes helped impede the permeation of some toxins; maybe this was one of them. An old trick he learned a very long time ago in a war.
What Dieter expected to happen next, was for one of the goddesses to move down and begin to attack them. Well that happened, but what he didn't expect was for it to try and stampede over them like some kind of living battering ram. As a European he couldn't be faulted for not seeing this classic hippo tactic coming, but it did nothing to ease the shock of the impending doom storming their way with enough force to make the floor shake. An estimate told him that this thing must weigh over a ton, possibly more than the jeep they drove to here. Movement out of the corner of his eye brought him to react on instinct and swing his spear just in time to hack apart a pair of bandages being thrown his way by one of the mummies. It seemed they weren't content to focus on Gedeon alone anymore. This act wasn't futile, however; it cost him precious seconds that would greatly impede evading that charge. Without delay he shouted, "Gedeon, cover me," and in a stroke of what must be madness, moved towards the colossal monster barreling down at them.
But as always, he had a plan.
Nimble hands collapsed his spear's haft, bringing it down to about half size. One hand held it as he dived forward and turned like a baseball player skidding to home base, the motion bringing him between its front legs. With a wordless cry, he thrust the lance up into Ammit's underbelly while she rumbled past. What this would do is use her own unstoppable momentum against her; essentially, making her gut herself on his weapon. Even if not lethal, this would certainly hurt if it worked; likely cutting a deep gash from chest to waist. It would probably leave him in a pool of blood and worse, but if that was the price to pay for survival...well, who could argue with the fare? The other advantage to this plan is that it wouldn't break up their formation the way it would if he pulled backwards to hide behind a twist in the hallway. That would almost certainly have left Salvator behind, and then they'd each have to take one of these on in single combat. A bad prospect.
That did not negate the fact that this plan had two significant drawbacks. The first was that if this did not kill or cripple the chimera, Dieter would have one on both his front and back to deal with next round. That could end very badly, very quickly. The other detriment was that the second beast that didn't charge could now walk over leisurely and smash him underfoot. This was why he called out to the mage to cover him, Gedeon would have to move into position and block for him ASAP. If he couldn't distract that thing, or physically get in the way of it, the German would likely be toast.
Ideally his comrade be able to get the lead out and do that before it was too late. This would make a third time today that his trust was placed in that man. It was starting to make him uncomfortable, although there was something to be said for friendships forged in fire and doused in blood. As well it was hoped that the girls would be safe further down the hall and not need to take any special action, at least on his behalf. Even if they weren't in cover they had plenty of time to see the charger coming and move further to evade it.

Tamara was worried about Gedeon, with everything happening and him and Dieter being on the front line alone worried her. Strange enough worrying about someone else that is in less trouble then one's self was a bad idea. Tamara herself was i9n far worse danger and the blood kept coming out making her feel weird and dizzy. When Kate came up to her she saw in her eyes it must be bad if she looked a bit worried. Though her tune changed when she soon hears about taking off her shirt.
"What?! My shirt!! Why?!", Tamara spat out in a panick not wanting to be so exposed, and not because of two men in the room on the sole fact she didn't want Gedeon to stare at her.
Regardless the blood keeping spilling and her own body feeling badly she had no choice but to accept Kate's own suggestion which really felt bad about the situation.
"Fine...", Tamara soon blurted back as Kate got to work on her.
After moments of silence and waiting on Kate to finish her her she soon notice the bleeding stopped but she herself was still feeling bad. The situation was still dire as Tamara would soon push herself up a bit and attempts to stand to no avail.
"Looks like I am going to be a liability here, you better help those two now.", Tamara soon stated even as her own knees were feeling weak.
Of course due to blood loss, the wound, and shock would make her like she Tamara would be able to keep herself up and if need be use her magic. With that done Tamara will sit to gather her strength and would slowly begin gathering mana around the area toward her for some odd reason. To Kate it could be to use a spell to help the others but it would take time to do so with her in this state.
_________________________________________________________
As doom was coming toward him Gedeon was ready to pull another attack in and soon saw the incoming mummies attack and was about to deflect them only for Dieter to cut them in mid air. When they saw what was coming Gedeon soon hears Dieter about covering him and headed toward the giant goddesses.
"Oh? I see.", Gedeon soon stated as he prepared himself to handle the rest he began to chat once more but instead of a wind slash he was preparing something else.
"By the fires of the azure sky come onto to me!! By the birth of the father of the serpents coming onto my blade!! By the wing and the flame! Flame-Wind Slash!!", Gedeon soon shouted as his spear would be enveloped in flames and adding into the wind with it increased its strength.
This time Gedeon waited for Dieter to use his own move and within perfect synced gave a downward slash at the second goddess to distract her long enough. His Stone Skin itself was holding if only barely as the Jackals attacked at the most inopportune time as their bite only hit solid rock of his armor but their strength was slowly digging in. He didn't have much time and hoped Dieter's plan with the other one would work. Well he himself would be forced to contend with the rest.

The mammoth braced herself for the impact, before suddenly feeling the sharp pain coming from below as her target suddenly disappears from her view. It was a very serious wound, one that is quickly draining her of her life. It was about to continue her charge forward, now aiming at Gedeon, in order to have one last chance at their lives before she falls to her wounds. But before she could succeed, a hole opens up on her body as result of gunfire. Normally the bullets won't enough to kill her, but she had already suffered plenty of injuries before hand, and the bullets became the last attack that finished the beast. The body of the now dead Ammit continues to slide towards Gedeon, only to disappear in a burst of small white and black particles just in time to avoid collision with him, which is a good thing considering that is still a very very heavy object coming towards him.
The other Ammit was about to finish off the intruder that had killed her comrade, but was hit by Gedeon's magical slash. The attack had sliced into her torso, doing some damage in terms of physical and fire, but it wasn't something that could finish her off easily just like Dieter's magic from a few moments ago. It did however diverted her attention to the younger man, and she begins to slash at him with her claws while the jackals hold on to him with full strength in order to slow him down, now it's the mage knight's turn to come face to face with the powerful creatures that Dieter has been fighting so far. The giant beast definitely moves faster than the mummies, and hits with much more fatality than her bandaged friends. Killing the other Ammit also seems to have made this one angry, and is attacking with more strength than they had before, swinging slashes after slashes towards Gedeon.
The mummies continue at their job, making it more difficult for the group to fight the remaining Ammit. With sudden lashes of the bandages, and the poison gas increasing in dosage, it is not going to be fun fighting the beast goddess in this condition. However the male one suddenly got shot in the arm, causing it to hanging around by its arm socket. It's not enough to kill it, but it seem to have reduced the amount of the poison gas by a bit, suggesting signs of injuries.
"Oh don't complain, I'm not doing any better... it's either that or those rotting bandages on the mummies, that will just make it worse."
It's true, Kate is not wearing anything more than Tamara is. The sight of a pair of girls in their undergarment, messing around with bandages in a ruin creates a strange image. More so when one of them looks like the kind that should be sitting in a chair, drinking afternoon tea and relaxing in the sun. It took some efforts to get the bandaging done, the wound being so deep and wide, but they managed to patch it up for now. After she's done, she had Tamara lay down in a more comfortable position, and picks up the rifle to join in battle again.
"You take care of yourself, don't lean on the wounded side... I'll go help the others."
And she did, she arrived just in time to put a bullet into the first Ammit's head, saving Gedeon from getting crushed by the huge beast. It was a lucky shot, but one that they could definitely use. She stays a bit of distance behind the two, so that she could assist them without interfering with melee combat. But she does have something useful, if the two are in danger she might have to step up and give them a hand.
"Mr. Gerhardt! Mr. Salvator! Don't keep too much distance with it or it would be able to charge at us again!"
That said, fighting at close range was not a simple feat, not with those powerful jaws and sharp claws ready to tear them apart, but it's still better than the 2000kg charge they might receive.
Kate then shot at the male mummy, trying to disable it so they can stop the source of the poisonous gas. It only have a very minor effect right now, but it could build up and become a hazard if they ignore it.

The beast shuddered as Gerhardt tore into it, and for a second, he feared that it would die them and there and collapse atop of him. In effect, giving it the same outcome as if its plan to trample him had worked. Fortunately it didn't do that, and instead made a final mad rush at Salvator in an attempt to draw blood. A gunshot ended it once and for all, though he didn't stop to admire the handiwork. He drug himself back to his feet as fast as he could to rejoin the fight. Nothing came out to destroy him so it appeared that Gedeon pulled through in providing a distraction, which was excellent, and now he had to return the favor. Normally he'd do some kind of kip-up maneuver to get back into the fray in a second; the wounds he had suffered made that a bad idea at this time. Stolen lifeforce fixed most, but not all, of them, enough remained that those kinds of full-body motions would risk making them worse. He had to take the time to do it normally.
The density of the gas started to increase in the hallway, and that made him begin to feel a bit woozy. He wasn't sure if that was the purpose, or just a side effect of it starting to block out the oxygen. Taking stock of the changing battlefield revealed that the majority of the monsters remaining chose to gang up on and harass Gedeon, other than that poisoner over there in the back ranks. He could close right back into melee, but that'd limit his own abilities to fight and reduce Miss Casimir's usefulness. The hall was big enough for two men and little more, so if he closed the gap immediately, she'd have to risk shooting over both of them. A daunting feat even for a skilled warrior. Instead, he took that assault rifle he'd been lugging from over his shoulder and flipped the safety off.
"Now for some lead." He quipped while bringing it to a shoulder.
Tight bursts of automatic fire were leveled at the enemies in this order: The male mummy, the female one, and then the ammit. He couldn't risk shooting the jackals safely with how small and agile they were, not when they were literally hanging off of the mage. That'd be too dangerous, even for him. The goddess was a big enough target that he could safely lay into it without risk of hitting his friend, once again using its bulk against it. Primarily, he wanted to thin out the chaff so they could focus fire on the chimera that remained. In addition to that he really wasn't liking that poison, so better to get it out of the way now before it keeps flooding the hallway and risks afflicting them in some negative way. Not something they needed when dealing with hostile magical creatures.
The gun itself was chambered in the original 7.92 kurz, or "44 bore" as they tended to refer to it these days in some of the parts of the world that still used it. It was a pretty beefy round, getting hit by it wouldn't be pleasant. Ammit could handle it better than the mummies with its many layers of fat, but he put bursts down in clusters of five that ought to do some damage regardless of natural armor assuming that he hit. With that said he kept his spear ready at his side to rush back into melee if the knight got banged up too badly. Which would probably happen next round whether he needed it or not, strictly speaking; the lance was much more effective than the gun in these kinds of situations, but tactics called for something with a bit of distance. He certainly wasn't going to try and walk past that monstrosity to go stab its undead allies.

Dieter's gamble paid off as the first Ammit finally fell in the battle even as it was charging towards him at the last second. Even though they were now in control of the situation better then before, Gedeon now had to face what Dieter has been facing. Differences of course was that Gedeon was harder to crack as one would say as he was more way of shielding himself then Dieter had. Though not like it will help as how strong the last Ammit was in fact. Gedeon would get a first time experience as the last ammit came towards him at this very moment. Gedeon prepared himself with his spear as the Ammit's first attack was deflected, barely in fact if he didn't pour mana into his weapon it could of possibly broke his spear.
"Great... this thing hits hard!", Gedeon soon mutters under strain as he began to engage the Ammit in close combat.
He prepared himself once more as the next attack fully pushed him back as the Ammit was much stronger then he imagined. Not to mention being enraged didn't help the attacks kept on coming. Gedeon adjusted himself the entire time after each blow the closer it got to actually hitting him. By the time on the 4th blow the Ammit finally manage to directly hit him, but luckily his stoneskin was holding up but Gedeon noticed the attack left a crack in the armor. That wasn't good in fact it would mean another few and he would likely be completely in trouble.
"Great... this guy... is not letting up!!", Gedeon then shouts as the 5th slash was coming this time another part of his armor and hit him again.
His Stone Skin on that part was now cracking and giving Gedeon not much time to respond. If he stayed on the defense it was only a matter of time he would be utterly crushed which left him with only one option.
"I can't continue like this I need to finish this guy off... I guess.... I will have to use one.", Gedeon soon mutters as he soon began to chant as the enraged Ammit was coming to attack a 6th time. As he was chanting it was coming towards him and it wouldn't of been enough time then suddenly a wall of earth came up before him as he turned briefly to see he soon saw the wounded Tamara who was on the wall on her good side with her hand out as she chanted her spell ahead time. Though it was timely the enraged Ammit was easily breaking before the wall as Tamara put up four of them to slow it down. One by one it broke through the rock with ease and then the final wall but it would give Gedeon enough time he needed.
'Oh Guardian of the Holy People, I beseech thee to give thy Power! Through wisdom and knowledge you who that sat on the throne of Judgment through Upon the land! By the Clouds and sky! Twist and Churn thy power on to my enemies!! By this I beseech thee to release the power of the King of Devas!! Now hear my Power!! JUDGEMENT BOLT!!'., Gedeon soon shouted but difference from last time Gedeon got his spear that acted like a Javelin then he would throw it toward the Ammit as soon as the last wall would break.
